I hadn't said anything about it - because I've been so busy getting ready for it! - but this week is the infamous Vacation Bible School week. I've felt better about it than I have the previous five summers, and it's been shockingly unstressful so far, but it has almost completely consumed my life.

I've been given two days off next week, in addition to the holiday, and I have never been so grateful for a breather. I am abhorrently behind in EVERYTHING. I had intended to rewatch most of my Movies of the Day, as a refresher, but that has been the first thing to fly out of the window. As the stressful part of VBS comes to an end, up comes crunch time for Scribbulus as we push to get a new issue out this weekend. And I've been horribly derelict about my chapter-a-day canon re-read community, and even more so with my personal re-read (our posts are on Chapter 8 of HBP today, but I'm still just a little past halfway on OOTP).

Add to that the impending hysteria surrounding the new HP movie (the hysteria has pretty much already started - yayz for actual clips!) and of course the last HP book (Spoiler Week should hit in a couple weeks time :P), and it's all I can do to remember my name and what language I speak. Oh, and I still have to find time to make my house look a little less like a disaster area for guests who are coming in a few weeks.

I think I've finally recovered from Lumos and am back to semi-regular sleeping patterns. And yes, [livejournal.com profile] angua9, I finally did shed some belated tears over leaving Vegas and all the wonderful peeps I hung out with there. It's a strange feeling to be on the other side of something you looked forward to and planned for a long time - especially when you don't have any particular plans for something else in the future. I'm big on countdown calendars, and now that there's nothing to count down to (sorry, I can't bring myself to count down 300-some days until OotP), it feels like part of my life has kind of stopped. Weird.

I'm housesitting/dogsitting this week, so I'll be getting used to a foreign space for the next couple of days. Hopefully, I won't have any trouble getting on the wireless internet so that "real" life won't have to be put on hold. :P

In other news, I find that my passion for Pirates has somewhat cooled. It's not that I'm tired of it or don't like it anymore, by any means. But I find that my unbridled "wahoo!" enjoyment of it is sort of undercut by all the discussion. Of course, there's nothing wrong with discussion, but the movie doesn't feel like "my" experience anymore when I watch it, where other movies do give me that feeling. I don't feel like I can think what I want to think about it, because it's a bigger story now and there's a "right" way to think about it. For some reason, the "right way" issue doesn't bother me about HP at all - I guess I just experience books and movies in different ways. *shrugs* I'll probably be back in excitement mode next May anyway. :)

I left work yesterday, grabbed some supper, and headed out to Green Hills for the first day of festivities. I was reminded again why I hate that part of town - the traffic is always a nightmare, especially at rush hour. I knew I had to be in my seat 15 minutes before showtime or I'd lose my seat, and I had no idea how long it would take to pick up all my stuff at Will Call. I got there, got my stuff, which included a nifty laminate and 30-some-odd tickets (see pic below), and headed past the news cameras to the queue for the movie (The Thing About My Folks). My nifty laminate pass meant that I could get comp tickets to any film/panel/party I wanted to attend, which was good because one ticket to this first film cost an amount not to be sneezed at.

Okay, I am CRAXING up over this article. The idea of "sexing up" a movie about thirteen-year-olds is more than a little pervy. I'm guessing this idea is some sort of mutation of Cuaron's joking comment about "lots of nudity and sex" being the manifestation of the hormonal teenage stuff. I love how the article feels the need to add that there "won't be any real love scenes." Shucks - I was really rooting for Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice and Ron and Hermione. I guess we'll have to wait till GoF for that, though. ;)

I'm still sick, though I'm getting a little better. I find it hard to believe that so much crud could possibly be in my fairly small nose. But I think I will cut the work day short today (I'll try and duck out just in time to miss staff meeting).

Well, my dad's wedding went fairly well yesterday, but I am thoroughly exhausted by the experience. I wasn't nervous or emotional at all until a girl I went to church with growing up gave me a hug five mintes before the ceremony began and told me I looked just like my mother (who died when I was 12). That put me in a bit of a state, but it was a lovely thing for her to say.

In more mundane news, I saw three movies this weekend. Click here for my take on American Splendor, Thirteen, and Anything Else. )
