Since this is over a week out from the release date, it's probably too late to urge anyone NOT to see this movie in 3D. Audiences have apparently gone overwhelmingly for the traditional format, so perhaps the warning isn't necessary. It actually was filmed in 3D, so it probably looks better than most, especially some of the beautiful daylight scenes, but a LOT of this movie takes place at night. And since 3D makes the picture dimmer, that means it's REALLY dark. So if you haven't seen it yet, skip the 3D.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

So, I guess the cool thing for all the cool kids to do in CoolTown is hate on this new Pirates movie. As such, I guess I'm just uncool.

Because I really enjoyed it. A lot.

That's not to say it doesn't have problems, and it's certainly my least favorite installment (though I loved 2 and 3, so your mileage may vary). But it's still a Pirates movie. It still feels very in character with that world. Jack is very Jack. Hector is very Hector (except when ... no no, that's spoiler territory). And the biggest new addition, Edward Teach (a.k.a. Blackbeard), is as epic a pirate as the best of them. Oh, and there is a handsome shirtless young man, which no entry in this franchise should EVER be without.

You lied to me by telling the truth? ... Mind if I use that? )

News item on the Black Pearl docking in Hawaii. How awesome would that be to see it in person?!

Confirmed: Jack and Hector will indeed be searching for the Fountain of Youth.

Also supposedly confirmed: Other, somewhat bizarre things.

Sparrow, Barbossa, the Fountain of Youth, and ... robots? Steampunk?

Detailed description of PIRATES TRAILER here (as seen by AICN's Quint at ShoWest), along with the following nugget about when we might finally SEE the thing.

Bruckheimer said that there would be a big event to unleash the trailer in 25 cities March 19th. I think you might be hearing a little more about that soon…

25 cities? And ... on a Monday? What gives?

I think I've finally recovered from Lumos and am back to semi-regular sleeping patterns. And yes, [livejournal.com profile] angua9, I finally did shed some belated tears over leaving Vegas and all the wonderful peeps I hung out with there. It's a strange feeling to be on the other side of something you looked forward to and planned for a long time - especially when you don't have any particular plans for something else in the future. I'm big on countdown calendars, and now that there's nothing to count down to (sorry, I can't bring myself to count down 300-some days until OotP), it feels like part of my life has kind of stopped. Weird.

I'm housesitting/dogsitting this week, so I'll be getting used to a foreign space for the next couple of days. Hopefully, I won't have any trouble getting on the wireless internet so that "real" life won't have to be put on hold. :P

In other news, I find that my passion for Pirates has somewhat cooled. It's not that I'm tired of it or don't like it anymore, by any means. But I find that my unbridled "wahoo!" enjoyment of it is sort of undercut by all the discussion. Of course, there's nothing wrong with discussion, but the movie doesn't feel like "my" experience anymore when I watch it, where other movies do give me that feeling. I don't feel like I can think what I want to think about it, because it's a bigger story now and there's a "right" way to think about it. For some reason, the "right way" issue doesn't bother me about HP at all - I guess I just experience books and movies in different ways. *shrugs* I'll probably be back in excitement mode next May anyway. :)

...instead of me saying - eh, I'll just stay till five and get some more stuff done.

Well, it's been about 18 hours since I've even looked at the DT (yay me!). After reading kia's attack on [livejournal.com profile] acemyth's shipper debate treaty, I can't imagine the debate is any more intelligent than it has ever been.

I'm hoping to see American Splendor this afternoon. I've heard excellent things about it, and I'm glad to see that Paul Giamatti has finally gotten a decent, meaty role. Also on my list for this week - Thirteen, Secondhand Lions and Woody Allen's latest, Anything Else. Jason Biggs seems to be replacing Michael Rappaport as Woody Allen's staple actor, because he has been cast in Allen's next project along with Will Farrell, Chloe Sevigny and Jonny Lee Miller (*sigh*). Tonight and tomorrow are pretty much booked, though, with my dad's wedding and the rehearsal and all that jazz.

I wish all land lubbers a Happy "Talk Like a Pirate Day" (arrrrrr!). Drink up, me hearties - yo ho! I raise my pint of grog (er - hot pink plastic cup of grape kool-aid) to you all! And many happy returns to bonny lass, Hermione Granger, who - if she were an actual person - would on this day be three and twenty.

Oh, and because not a day passes but what I post my result from some quiz, in keeping with the semi-nautical theme on the day . . .

I can't get away from work.

Ever have one of those projects that you have to do a whole bunch of copies for, and once you've made all the copies you find a tiny but obvious error - and you have to do the whole thing again? 140 copies of Sunday's Children's Bulletin in File 13 because I forgot to change the date. Urgh! Oh well, I'd rather do extra work than look like an idiot. (too late)

Went to see POTC again last night. *sigh* And next weekend "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" comes out, continuing the bliss of Johnny Depp Drooling Season.

Can't write much today - 140 bulletins to fold and Sunday School boxes to stuff (on a Saturday) before I go cry my eyes out at Romeo and Juliet in the park.
