Eeeee! Kloves is writing the DH script! Or ... I should say, he will be writing it once the strike is over.
As to some of the other rumors that have been going around...
- As you can see if you follow the link above, WB says there has been no decision made about splitting DH into two films. I'm of two minds about the issue myself. On the one hand, I agree with Quint of AICN that it would be nice to send the series out with a bang, and a two-parter would be a special way to do that, especially if they took the Matrix approach and released them within a few months of each other. On the other hand, where would they cut it? Ron's departure is too soon, captured and taken to the Malfoy Manor is too late, and everything between is too soft. I don't think there's *so* much they could excise from the book. Everyone keeps talking about long periods of camping where they don't do anything, but ... um, that is not how I remember it. Some of the details of time passing could be cut, but that doesn't amount to as much as people might think, not to mention all the information that is gathered during that time. And then you've got to think about the final battle, which doesn't take up much page space, but would HAVE to be frigging epic, else it would be laughable to an audience that still remembers Peter Jackson's renditions of Helm's Deep, Minas Tirith, and Mordor.
- Okay, so there are also rumors that Katie Bell has been cut from HBP, and that Cho is going to be the one who gets the cursed necklace. Cho running into Death Eater trouble in Hogsmeade sounds suspiciously like a certain Totally Unbiased Fanfic to me, but then so did Hermione being tortured at Malfoy Manor (ZOMG, JKR and Steve Kloves are reading our LJs!). This news seems a bit strange coming only a few weeks after we heard that Katie Bell had indeed been cast. But then ... movie!Harry's world of acquaintances is necessarily smaller than book!Harry's. As much as I would have loved to have seen Katie Bell, people who haven't read the books are just not going to know who she is, and they won't be as invested in her as they will Cho. One wonders how this will fit into the unresolved issue of Harry/Cho and the whole Veritaserum thing from OOTP, but ... we'll see.
- Also new to Rumorsville is the reported scene where Ron helps win the Quidditch Cup and Lavender runs up to give him a victory snog. I'm not sure why this is bad news, though. I really, really don't think this is going to overshadow the "sunlit days." I mean, dudes, they are ALREADY showing us H/G stuff, which makes me think there's more than enough shippy goodness to go around. Looks to me as if Kloves wanted to make up for Ron not getting to have his moment in OOTP (Hah! He does NOT hate Ron.) Yes, yes, Harry is supposed to be in detention from slicing Draco up, but this is one of those things that was very likely moved around. I wouldn't be surprised if "Sectumsempra" was moved a little closer to the climax, for several reasons, not the least of which would be to put Draco's "I can't do it" closer to the scene where he's actually having to do it. The other thing this is changing, of course, is that Ron and Lavender seem to still be together at the time of the QC, when in the book they had broken up already. But who knows what this will actually be like in the context of the film (or that Lavender running up to kiss Ron is the same as a lingering scene of them snogging, which is not likely, given that we should have seen plenty of that already at that point).
- And in smaller rumor news, there is a report that Lavender is supposedly wearing glasses. This is the kind of detail that a)always gets blown way out of proportion (PANSY'S STRAPPY DRESS HERMIONE'S PINK DRESS OMG!) and/or b)typically turns out to be not what we thought. I have a hard time imagining her in glasses, but maybe Jessie wears them in RL and this rumorist saw her between takes.
Anyway, my point is that it's WAY too early to be passing judgment on stuff like this. Rumors like these have been a presence throughout all of the films, so why should this one be different? And who's to say that any of this - except the Kloves news, which comes from WB (sorry, anti-Kloves folks) - is more than just a rumor to begin with?

And I'm actually with you about Kloves. I don't feel as strongly about it as you do, but I'm certainly not as unhappy with him as a lot of others are. Not that he hasn't made some cringe-worthy decisions (Ron not being the one who says, "If you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill us first!" in PoA still makes me wince, even after all this time), but in general, I think he's done a pretty good job. I would have preferred Goldenberg, but I'm not at all upset about Kloves doing DH.

And I totally agree with you, there's no point getting worked up over a rumor that may or may not be true, may or may not be distorted, and might be just fine even if it is true. I would prefer it if the loveliness of the H/G kiss wasn't just a few minutes after a R/L one, but who knows, maybe it will work. Or maybe it's just not the case. And I can't help wondering whether Lavender actually kisses Ron after the *first* Quidditch match, and the thing about it being the Cup is just a garbled report.
I think rumors just catch people unawares, and there's a natural emotional reaction against changes whatever they are, especially anything that impacts a scene that's very important to a lot of people.
Oh, and Kloves for DH is totally fine with me. This series kind of belongs to him as much as David Heyman and Emma Watson; I feel like they all might as well just finish it up. It's not perfect, it's not the way I would do it, but it is what it is. Maybe someday there will be a series planned all at once with the kind of love the LotR movies got (though managing the actors growing up seems like a nightmare). Until then, let them finish what they started.

I heard about the Ron/Lavender thing too, but I was discussing it with some other people and we wondered if the supposed "extra" who is reporting this news meant the first game the Gryffindors win against the Slytherins rather than the Quidditch Cup. There was a big celebration there too and that's when Lavender first kissed Ron and Hermione was angry. That's pretty much what the extra said the scene was about. I find that much more likely (and canon!) than R/L still being together when Ron wins the Cup later.
Oh and YAY for Kloves! I wanted him to do DH. :D

I've enjoyed most of the movies. The only one I don't like is PoA, and that's because of Super!Hermione! And it's the director (Curan sp?) that I think had way more to do with that than the script.
None of the rumors bother me, either. I mean, most of the movies are 100% faithful to the books, but as long as everyone remains in character, I'm pretty cool with the movies.
When do the darn movies come out? Maybe by then I can actually get to the theater to watch (I just watched OotP for the first time last week and LOVED it!).
