You're gonna be bothered by how cool I am.

There's a rumor floating around that Tom Cruise and some other folks want to do a sequel to Top Gun.  (Click here for some lolarious proposed subtitles in AICN's TalkBack - my personal favorite is "Goose'd: Top Gun 2.")  Now, this could work, in theory.  If the filmmakers are willing to not take the first movie and its star so seriously.  If they're willing to go with the Eighties-ness of it all.  Of course, this could just be an attempt at a Tom-Katie vehicle - "cocky new female pilot," anyone? - in which case just kill me now.

But I do have an immoderate fondness for that movie, even though some parts of it are now unintentionally funny.  So when Merrick, who posted the article linked above, embedded this YouTube clip of the "Top Gun Anthem" video (VIDEO!), I simply had to revel in the over-the-top, slo-mo, too-dramatic, guitar-riffic, silver-pant-wearing awesomeness.  I encourage you to do the same.  Don't get so distracted by Steve Stevens writhing with his guitar as if about to climax that you miss his smexxy stiletto boots.  *thumbs up*

In much sadder news, Estelle Getty died this morning.  She was my favorite Golden Girl.  When I was in the 8th grade, The Golden Girls was actually a cool show to watch.  My three friends and I each named ourselves after one of the characters, and we all wanted to be Sophia.

She played lots of memorable TV roles and made a few movies, including Mannequin and, sadly, Stop or My Mom Will Shoot.  She was a great dame of the small screen, and she'll be sorely missed.

But we'll always have Sicily.
