This started as a comment to [livejournal.com profile] mrs_bombadil's last post, regarding Mark of "Mark Reads HP" and his response to Horcruxes and H/G, but it got so long I figured I'd post it here instead.

I'm so happy he loves H/G, because I was kind of worried he wouldn't. I'm also glad he stuck up for the realism of becoming suddenly attracted to someone you've known for years, even going so far as to give yet another (this time quite recent) parallel from his own life. That has always been a huge complaint that we "ChocoHerons" could never fully address, mostly because our viewpoint was distrusted and we were "probably just lying" about anything in our real lives. Mark has earned a rare kind of trust from his readers, due in large part to his endearing openness, but also partially because he doesn't think too much about what's coming. He cares, of course, but he's very much "along for the ride" and doesn't press his opinions on forthcoming events - and why would he? He's the only one (apart from the few who are first-time-reading HP along with him) that doesn't have all the answers already.

I know some people are a bit bummed that he didn't seem to see H/G coming, but I'm not surprised. Dude, he thought Snape was the baddie in the first book. There are a lot of things that we all picked up on, having the opportunity to read and re-read and analyze ad nauseam between release dates, that he's just not going to. He doesn't even have the benefit of hearing Rowling talk about the books and draw attention to certain things, because (rightly so, I think) people are lumping things like that with spoilers. There's just no way for him to see the big picture while he's stopping to say something about each chapter. I feel pretty sure he'll pick up on a lot more when he powers through a re-read.

But I feel at least a little vindicated that someone who is extremely invested in the books but has no fandom involvement weighing him down is on my side.

I am SHOCKED I had to hear about this from a fansite (namely, SnitchSeeker, via [livejournal.com profile] daily_snitch) and not the raucous squeeing of my H/G flisters.

For those who have not seen the news, Cut for movie spoilers, even though it's in the book we've all had for two and a half years )

*ahem* That is all.

Nice interview with Dan on GMTV, which includes an even longer look at the Burrow scene with the Trio. Though their dialogue there does bring up a canon inconsistency, SPOILER )

Anyway, there's obviously a bit of romance talk, and Dan said something really lovely about Harry/Ginny, as it contrasts with the movie's other relationship, Ron/Lavender. I actually had to watch it twice, because while he's saying it, they're showing a bit more of the kiss scene, BTS-view that is, and I was too busy watching it to pay attention to what he was saying at first. :P

I think in this film it's demonstrations of two very different types of teenage relationships. There's the one, which is Harry and Ginny, which is all absolutely love's young dream, and Harry is completely besotted with her, and it's that kind of all-encompassing that you have where nothing else matters when you're about 15. And then, on the other side of it, you have Ron and Lavender, who really don't know each other that well, but boy is there a lot of energy in their relationship, and it's very touchy-feely and just about snogging as much as you can for as long as you can, essentially.

(ETA, because I only just realized I hadn't indicated that there was even a quote in here at all!)

Trying to avoid the mountains of work I have to do before Monday, I plugged one of my H/G fics into Wordle and got this:

I love how the first words I see are Harry, Ginny, and want. :D

I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] mrs_bombadil for this, but it took me a while because I wanted to do the subject as much justice as several of you did and because I almost gave up on the task entirely after seeing this. I mean, honestly, what's the point in following that?

Nevertheless, and for what it's worth, here goes.

First, a little bit of history. Read more... )

In a nutshell: I love. this. ship.

But why? )

Heh. I didn't notice my sick-feeling as much while writing this. Now that I'm done, my nose feels noticably stuffier and my eyes more watery. :P

A wonderful church service - as usual - this morning, with several new additions. Sharron (our organist) did an awesome postlude that got a round of applause at the end.

Romeo and Juliet was great. They actually cast people close to the characters' ages, which was nice, for a change. Juliet was such a neurotic teenager! The way she screamed "BY AND BY, I COME!" in aggravation at the Nurse was priceless. Mercutio was great, but then he has to be. Paris looked like a pimp. The Prince was actually a woman this time, which was interesting. There were some really different interpretations of a lot of the dialogue, which made me look at certain scenes in a different way. The company also squeezed every bit of sexual innuendo out of the play and milked it for all it was worth. Mercutio, for example, pretty much made out with the Nurse in the "Farewell, ancient lady" scene. Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun with it, though, which I guess is what Shakespeare in the Park is all about.

On the HP front, I am delighted with the new OC thread title ("Out of the East, with flaming locks bedight"), and I am proud that I found that passage in "Faerie Queene." I didn't give a diddly-dern about that poem when I had to read it in 16th Century British Lit, but now that there's a Harry Potter connection, I'm all over it. Sad, huh?

Oh well, I must be going now. The NFL season opener is on tonight. GO TITANS!
