A wonderful church service - as usual - this morning, with several new additions. Sharron (our organist) did an awesome postlude that got a round of applause at the end.
Romeo and Juliet was great. They actually cast people close to the characters' ages, which was nice, for a change. Juliet was such a neurotic teenager! The way she screamed "BY AND BY, I COME!" in aggravation at the Nurse was priceless. Mercutio was great, but then he has to be. Paris looked like a pimp. The Prince was actually a woman this time, which was interesting. There were some really different interpretations of a lot of the dialogue, which made me look at certain scenes in a different way. The company also squeezed every bit of sexual innuendo out of the play and milked it for all it was worth. Mercutio, for example, pretty much made out with the Nurse in the "Farewell, ancient lady" scene. Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun with it, though, which I guess is what Shakespeare in the Park is all about.
On the HP front, I am delighted with the new OC thread title ("Out of the East, with flaming locks bedight"), and I am proud that I found that passage in "Faerie Queene." I didn't give a diddly-dern about that poem when I had to read it in 16th Century British Lit, but now that there's a Harry Potter connection, I'm all over it. Sad, huh?
Oh well, I must be going now. The NFL season opener is on tonight. GO TITANS!
