I just saw the ONTD post about the DH1 soundtrack and the little mention David Yates makes about offering Part 2 to Desplat, but I have a little more info. One of the bnatters saw that same blurb and put out feelers for confirmation. According to Desplat's agent, he's definitely composing the score for Part 2.

I looked and looked for the post that supposedly confirmed Williams a few months back, but I can't find that it was ever officially confirmed by WB.

Anyway, I offer no opinions, just a clearer confirmation.

ETA: There's an interview here with Desplat himself where he's being quite coy, so maybe this STILL isn't decided.

I think Emma's new 'do looks great. She's tiny enough she can pull it off. Go her.

While all the Twihards are lining up to see their silly movie, I am sitting in line for free tickets to The Winter's Tale at Central Park's Delacorte Theater. I got here at 5:30am and am the fifth person in line. Woot!

According to the cute security guy, I will have to be even more diligent to score tickets to The Merchant of Venice (with Al Pacino). I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. For now, I've read Harold Blooms essay on WT and have just begun reading the play itself.

Good day so far, despite the fact that it's freezing in June for some reason.

Toy Story 3 is another one of those movies where I find myself asking, at random moments spent not watching it, "WHY am I not watching this RIGHT NOW?!" So naturally I was anxious to see it again, and I did this morning, well aware and excited that I'd be seeing it with a bunch of kids.

There's a trade-off to the matinee experience, of course. You have to endure kids whose parents haven't taught them how rude it is to talk during the movie. You also have families who apparently could not care less about showing up well after the movie's start time. But you also might get a moment like this.

Cut for spoilers for the final scene of TS3 )

According to a Tweet from Warwick Davis, today is officially the last day of shooting ever for the Harry Potter films. Of course, it's far from "the end of all things" for the main actors, who'll have press junkets and other assorted duties over the next year. And some of them will even be in Orlando next week for a sneak peek at the theme park.

But for most of the cast and crew who have worked on these films for ten years, this is it.

It hasn't quite been ten years for me as far as HP goes. Just short of nine. I picked up the first book on 4th of July weekend in 2001, which will put my decade-versary just days before the final film comes out. I suppose I can has a super-sad then. :(

ETA: I am very forcibly reminded of "The Load Out", by Jackson Browne, which was in heavy rotation on my playlist in the period between the announcement and the release of Book 7. Just a perfect picture of the melancholy feeling of ending something remarkable. Doors are being slammed, chairs folded, equipment hauled off - it's time to move on to the next show ... but not before we stay just a little bit longer.

Seeing Joel, Trace, and J. Elvis on Keith Olbermann's show the other night made me cave and splurge for a ticket. They're riffing a movie called "Danger on Tiki Island" and the show should start any minute.

I have to say that the Nokia theater, while the ideal size, is not quite the right layout for this event. I'm in one of the backermost rows, which wouldn't bother me if the view wasn't partially obstructed.

Still, it's not every day you get to see something like this live.

Decided on a whim to try the lottery for Next to Normal and WON! $25 front row seats (which were actually a bit too close, but hey).

Great musical, VERY emotional. I'm not sure how Alice Ripley does that night after night. The regular guy who plays the dad was out, but the understudy was sensational.

Ah, theater - I've missed you.

It ran 26.5 hours this year, and it was EPIC. As always, a list of the titles and very brief thoughts before crashing. Bold titles were premieres.

1. Faust (1926) - Murnau's silent film with live organ score
2. The Lovely Bones (2009) - Peter Jackson does grief, and beautifully
3. Girl Crazy (1943) - Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland in what I think must have been the inspiration for the stage musical Crazy For You
4. The Red Shoes (1948) - programmed by Martin Scorsese; there are no words for how beautiful this film is
5. Shutter Island (2010) - SO GOOD
6. Le Magnifique (1973) - lol French comedy of the 1970s
7. Micmacs (2010) - new film from Jeunet, director of Amelie
8. Frozen (2010) - the reason I will never go skiing ever
9. Centipede Horror (1973) - banned insect horror from the Shaw Brothers
10. The Candy Snatchers (1973) - fairly tepid kidnapping thriller with Most Awesome Toddler Ever
11. Kick-Ass (2010) - most accurately titled film in the lineup; just DUDE (special guests for this screening)
12. Avatar (2009) - yes, it lives up to the hype; wow is about all I can coherently say about right now

I'm in Austin! Had a great time at the BNAT pre-party last night, which took place at the awesome Highball. Everything starts an hour early this year, so I'm pretty much on my way right now, with a quick stop for breakfast.

Harry posted the fake list last night and one of the titles is Farewell Uncle Tom - which, if you remember my BNAT 9 writeup, means the real movie in this slot is going to melt our faces clean off, like the Nazis at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

And without further ado, I'm off. See you on the flip side with my traditional reports!

Went to the superduper Apple Store of Ultimate Covetousness because I had a battery malfunction on the old phone that caused me to miss a call for work. Last straw? Check.

So I went directly to the store, where they have super-friendly and helpful salespeople who walk you through everything. I am loving being able to actually make a phone call without worrying that the phone will cut off after 5 minutes.

Trying to sync now, and it could be going better. But I love this thing!!!
