Another awards show, another liveblog. :P
RED CARPET AWKWARDNESS
* Hey, that chick from Mad Men is YoSaffBridge from Firefly!
* Um, I think Giuliana just asked Holly Hunter what her favorite color is. *facepalm* Hey, she lives in NY! :D
* Commercial for The Reader - finally saw that the other day, v. good.
* Weird, but Melissa Leo's dress reminds me of Aretha Franklin's inauguration hat.
* I know BJ Novak is kidding about the "boring writers, cinematographers..." bit, but people really think that and it ticks me off.
* Okay, Giuliana and Debbie need to stop with the making up nicknames.
* Emily Blunt! I love hearing someone with a British accent say "Dude." And I hate her for looking so awesome in that dress. *puts frozen pizza in over for dinner*
* America Ferrera's Vera Wang dress is absolutely my favorite so far.
* I love all these normal-looking people from The Office.
* Who is that adorable little girl that is supposedly from Desperate Housewives?
* Jane Krakowski is working the cleavage tonight. "We have to be careful with our knockers tonight."
* Wow, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have been married 20 years? LOL, "keep the fights clean and the sex dirty."
* Emile Hirsch! It's a shame his outstanding work in Milk has been largely ignored.
* Another epic-level beautiful dress on Teri Hatcher; love the tucked under hair.
* PIVEN! I kind of feel bad for him with the whole Broadway thing.
* So Evan Rachel Wood is a redhead now?
* I love Rainn Wilson (though I'm not loving the tie).
* Here we go, Brangelina. I am loving her hair, though; it's very early 20th century.
* Oh my goodness, Kate Winslet's dress joins the pantheon of greats. Awesome color. And I love the image of her playing Wii tennis with her son.
* Gah, the personal questions make me cringe. LOL, Brad - "let's go to the next question."
* Okay, I'm done with this. Watching something else until the awards come on.
Oh! TCM is running that Chuck Workman "100 Years at the Movies" montage. *sniff* I love movies!
THE AWARDS
* I hate these quick-shot blurby intros, but it's far and away better than when they try to filk some pop song.
* I do love these stories the actors tell about their first roles (Victor Garber, I love you! Phylicia Rashad!)
* LOL Will Arnett! LOL Steve Carell!
* Gah, this award show drivel. Tina Fey! Will she tell more people to suck it? "She got it into her head that it's a good thing to look like a famous politician. I don't know where she got that idea." :P
* Dev Patel is reading from cards ... why? Way to stalk the actors back to their seats, camera dude!
* LOL, Jon Hamm. Wasn't sure where he was going with the Olympic metaphor. I hope that's Alec Baldwin's daughter. "I don't know who I want to make out with more - Tony Hopkins or Diane Lane."
* Montage time!
* Dang, Jane, was that a dig at Callista Flockhart?
* Frost/Nixon clip! Frank Langella looks like he has a corn cob up his butt.
* Supporting Actress - such a great category this year. And it's KATE! I'll be very interested to see how this category and Best Actress shake out at the Oscars with her nominated as a lead for this movie.
* Lead actor, drama, TV. OMG HUGH!!!! *awaits brilliant speech* "I actually had $100 on James Spader. This is obvioiusly not my night." ... LOL, thanking the craft service for the cheesy eggs!
* ROFLMAO Amy Poehler and John Krasinski and Teh Fake Drama! SALLY FIELD! Sounds really weird to say this is her first win.
* (OMG GARY OLDMAN!)
* Oooooh, the very handsome men of Milk. "Is it just me, or is he cute?" :P
* Mad Men wins Best TV Drama Ensemble.
* I miss the days when there were no commercials about ED medication on television.
* Lifetime Achievement time! James Earl Jones. I wonder if they'll show a clip of The Man. Darth Vader, baby! ... I didn't know he was a Mississippi guy. ... Dr. Strangelove! ... YES! THE MAN! Gosh, that's a fantastic movie. ... Dude, SPOILER ALERT for Star Wars ... I loved him in Field of Dreams ... Sesame Street! ... LOL, is that really him dancing? ... Stop the music, he's ready to talk! ... Oh, his tribute to Paul Newman! *sobs*
* Don't fondle the Actor, Laura! :P
* Doubt clip.
* Marisa Tomei! There was a 24 movie? Paul Giamatti wins, but he isn't there? :(
* And now it's Kleenex time. ... Heston ... Korman ... Paul Scofield ... awww, Cyd Charisse ... Don LaFontaine! ... McGoohan ... the music from Out of Africa ... Sydney Pollock ... Isaac Hayes ... Kalgan, take me away ... Montalban ... Bernie Mac ... Pathingle ... Carlin! ... Widmark ... Estelle Getty ... Schieder ... Kitt ... Nina Foch, I love you ... oh gosh, I'm still not over Paul Newman.
* Supporting Actor ... Hoffman should really be nominated as a lead. Ah, that's why Oldman is there. Fitting to have an actor accept for him.
* Button clip! Awww, mama and her baby. :D ... "and saving us millions on plastic surgery" ... I love that movie so much.
* Best Actress ... MERYL! ... "I didn't even buy a dress!" ... "There is no such thing as the best actress." ... "Okay, I gotta get off," LOL like she's on the phone! :P
* Katie Holmes sounds exactly like someone who's just done a run on Broadway. Best Actor, okay ... Robin is there with Sean? ... And Sean wins. I really wanted Rourke to win, but my goodness, Sean Penn was fantastic in a fantastic film.
* Tony Hopkins looks kind of skinny. Okay, Best Picture. Slumdog. :) Dev looks much younger than usual in that tiny jacket! Awww, thanking the children - that's right, they're a huge part of why the movie is so great.
