Okay, so it's been a while since I posted something besides election squeeing or random movie news-ing, so here's an update, with bullets:
* Have been working my KIESTER off the past two weeks. I've had my temp job at the law school during the day, plus 4-5 days a week doing third shift doing the regular proofing, which means I've only slept on weekends. Well, that's not exactly true - I've dozed off at my desk at both jobs. What seemed great at first has of course taken the obligatory twists. I'll probably only be at this law school job through next Wednesday, unless the office gets authorization to keep me longer. I haven't been given much of anything to do as far as typing this professor's book goes - he's given me maybe 40 pages over the last two weeks, but he said at the end of last week that it should pick up starting today. We'll see.
* The place where I've been working nights the last two weeks has been looking for someone to bring onto their regular full time staff, and I found out that my working there the last few weeks was them kind of trying me out. They'll do the same for a couple more proofers over the next few weeks. While it sounds great to have a chance at a real, steady, not-just-a-few-weeks-long job ... it's very complicated. For reasons I can't really get into here. I'm hoping things work out, though I don't see how right now.
* Saw a couple of awesome movies this weekend. First was We Are Wizards, the documentary about Harry Potter fans and their creative endeavors. This focuses rather heavily on Wizard Rock, though (much to my delight) there are also huge chunks devoted to Brad Neely. The filmmakers, along with a few of the film's subjects (including Melissa, who had just done a reading at Barnes & Noble that evening), did a Q&A after the 9pm screening. It's running for a week here in New York, before it goes to a few other cities. From what I understand, the DVD is all ready to go, but they can't release it while it's having a regular run. All this means is that it should be on DVD soon, and I think any of you who have been involved with the fandom would definitely enjoy it.
I also saw Quantum of Solace, which is excellent. I rather like the rough and tumble Bond, and I especially like the fact that, for the first time, one Bond movie is continuing a story from a previous installment. My only complaint was that I arrived too late to get a decent seat and had to sit in the third row. Meaning that I was close enough to the screen to feel as if I had carnal knowledge of Daniel Craig. Which I guess isn't a bad thing, but still. :P
* It's less than four weeks until BNAT, and I'm getting pretty excited. Trying my best to catch up on Star Trek and finish reading Watchmen, in case ... you know. ;) I've And a few days after I get back from BNAT I'll be headed to Nashville for the holidays. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again. And driving a car.
