connielane: (sexy oscar boy)

Well, tonight's the night, and I'm superexcited as usual. I'm bummed that I'll have to miss the Barbara Walters special, but I'm going to have to. :(

I've managed to see all of the nominees in the "major" categories, except for Ruby Dee in American Gangster and Hal Holbrook in Into the Wild. I even managed to see all of the animated shorts last weekend (I'm rooting for Peter and the Wolf!). Just for the record, Gone Baby Gone is one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen. It reminds me quite a bit of The Pledge, and it's one of those movies that makes you want to just hate people.

I have my guesses, but I'm not really as interested in the wins and losses this year as I've been in the past. It seems a pretty predictable year, but the awards themselves are kind of a secondary reason why I watch the Oscars. I expect to be live-blogging as usual.

On another note, I wasn't as impressed with last night's SNL as I had hoped to be. I thought the cold open with the parody Democratic debate was especially lackluster, and Fred Armisen is not that exceptional yet at the Obama impression. The Bret Michaels sketch was a standout (I'm rockin' one leg, yo!), as was "I Drink Your Milkshake" (Bill Hader is DEAD ON in his impression of Daniel Day-Lewis's performance). I also liked the grandkids on the DVDs (This is too intense, grandpa - turn it off!). Oh, and "What's That B**** Talkin' About?!" Okay, so there were some cool spots (just what is Mike Huckabee up to?), but the opener was disappointing, and I wasn't as pumped as I expected to be after the strike drought.
