Okay, some people at the CSHH thread over at FAP have requested a list of the enumerated reasons posters have given for disliking the Harry/Hermione pairing. Since I didn't know of anywhere else that I could post them right now, I've put them here. I didn't put author's names with them, because it took long enough to forage through half a dozen threads for the reasons in the first place. They're mostly by harry's_wheezy and myself, with a couple by hymnia and at least one from Werrf. If it's a funny one, it was probably written by harry's_wheezy. Just click on our slogan below if you're curious.
Reason #2 - The R/Hr ship floats all on its own and is not powered by the uncanonical bashing of other characters
Reason #3 - Because deducing that Hermione likes Ron in return makes a lot more sense than having to think that she has been in love with Harry since she was eleven, only she didn't realize it until he showed an interest in Cho, so she decided to help Harry get a date with Cho so that he would realize that dating a girl like that was a disaster waiting to happen and she, Hermione, could be there to pick up the pieces, pretending to be sad that things went sour, all the while rejoicing that Harry was free to love her now, and simultaneously continuing inexplicably to give Ron mixed signals even though she doesn't like him *that way*.
Reason # 4 - It's Elitist
Reason #5 - Because R/Hrers are so much more fun and intelligent.
Reason #6 - Because Harry dreaming about Cho turning into Hermione doesn't mean diddly-squat - unless it's that Hermione would be just as unsuitable a girlfriend as Cho turned out to be. Does everything in these books have to be an indication that someone is in mad lurrve with someone else? Jeez!
Reason #7 - Because I can follow the plot of Tristram Shandy easier than I can follow the convoluted H/Hr slant of the Harry Potter series.
Reason #8 - There's no humor in H/Hr. It's all about the Mutual and Deep Understanding of Souls. How utterly dull.
Reason #9 - Because Harry and Hermione don't have a Deep and Mutual Bonding of Souls. They have a Shallow and Unrequited (at best) Bonding of Souls. No "Bonding of Souls" can possibly be Deep and Mutual if neither participant shows much of an interest in the other.
Reason #10 - Because R/Hr doesn't depend on calling JKR a liar who sits at home all day practicing facial expressions in front of her mirror to fool interviewers.
Reason #11 - Because it reduces Hermione to "the girl" and she's better than that.
Reason #12 - Screenwriter Steve Kloves, who is in constant contact with JKR, is an R/Hr shipper too!
Reason #13 - Because Harry and Hermione are like brother and sister, and treat each other as such. They aren't interested in dating each other.
Reason #14 - It's sexist and demeaning to a wonderful, strong female character.
Reason #15 - Harry is not physically attracted to Hermione.
Reason #16 - It presumes that romantic love is the only type of love worth writing about.
Reason #17 - When I read H/Hr arguments on the DT, I feel bipolar.
Reason #18 - JKR, as far as most people are concerned, has sunk the HMS Pumpkin Pie.
Reason #19 - Though it pretends to be the ship that's all about feelings, it rarely takes into account anyone's feelings but those of the shippers themselves.
Reason #31 - Because it's ruining my enjoyment of the books.
Reason #32 - Weasleys=love.
Reason #42 - Not only does the other side have many different "variations" of what they believe in, but they often don't even understand what another shipmate is trying to say!
Reason #45 - Because love isn't about how good your partner is at Expelliarmus.
Reason #56 - Because it doesn't matter what you think, how your last relationship turned out, or whether or not you like to argue. The books aren't about you, you're not a character in them, and the books weren't written by you. All that matters is what the author thinks.
Reason #69 - No sense of humor!!!!!
Reason #70 - Because if Ron needs someone to put him on a pedestal (i.e. Luna), then so does Harry. And that person is just not Hermione.
Reason #77 - Because it insists that Ron needs someone to fawn over him and ignores the fact that Hermione could make him a better person, which is much better for the grand scheme of his life.
Reason #78 - Because it assumes that Hermione is the only person good enough for Harry simply because she's the main female character.
Reason #79 - Because personal preference shouldn't take precedence over an objective understanding of the books.
Reason #82 - Because Harry needs a girlfriend who makes him laugh, not spend more time in the library!
Reason #83 - Boys and girls *can* be best friends without wanting to snog.
Reason #84 - Harry's never shown once that he likes more emotional girls. In fact, they seem to be a turn-off.
Reason #86 - Because I don't feel like reading between the lines that are between the lines.
Reason #88 - Because, no, they don't fight all the time.
Reason #96 - see the following quote (And one last thing I hate about Saint!Hermione: Her nagging only shows that she cares and it never annoys Harry. It is also always right because she is just expressing her concern. She shouldn't let Harry make his own decisions because she knows best. And Ron is a spineless coward for letting Harry do what he wants to do.)
Reason #101 - The books are not *real life*. They are a work of literature in which the author uses certain methods and conventions to portray events and characterization. It does not matter if you think Ron and Hermione fight too much, therefore, Hermione must date someone who never fights with her (even if he lies to her all the time...oops, tangent), the fact is, such interaction is a literary convention used to portray a developing romantic relationship.
Reason #102 - Harry really, really needs someone who makes him laugh.
Reason #113 - Because R/Hr doesn't require as proof the remarks of an insane Death Eater who killed his own father, and tried to kill Harry.
Reason #152 - Because of the “I just don’t like couples who argue” mentality.
Reason #192 - It takes beautiful and touching moments, that demonstrate the close friendship between two great characters, and turns them into fodder for the debate.
Reason #200 - Because if Harry chooses to be with someone other than Hermione, that's his prerogative, and it isn't just a method of getting him out of the way of another ship.
Reason #219 - It lacks irony.
Reason #220 - It makes symbolism seem like a bad thing!
Reason #221 - Because it is not a canon ship, no matter how much anyone wants it to be.
Reason #222 - Because the mere suggestion of it causes the author of these stories to look revolted.
Reason #223 - It holds a myopic view of certain other ships and characters.
Reason #234 - Because it unbalances the Trio.
Reason #243 - It assumes than men and women can't be close friends without one fancying the other, which is both ridiculous and really, really, annoying.
Reason #256 - Harry needs a lover, not a mother. Hermione needs a challenge, not sullen lies. Ron needs someone who loves him for who he is, not someone who puts him on a pedestal or thinks things like Prefect badges and Quidditch titles matter.
Reason #356 - Because H/Hr would drive me to drink. And I drink too much as it is already.
Reason #357 - It's in the Zodiac and take a look at Harry and Hermione AND Ron's stars and check for what they mean and u'll see that R/Hr were (by the stars) bloody MEANT for each other!!!!!!!!!
Reason #374 - Magical prowess is not a prerequisite for a love interest (wizards do marry muggles, after all).
Reason #397 - They made us lose one of our best debaters!
Reason #451 - Because Hermione should be with someone who tells her the truth and doesn't lie.
Reason #478 - Romantic relationships in literature are not meant to be enigmas wrapped in riddles wrapped in condumdrums.
Reason #509 - Because Hermione needs someone to challenge her, not someone who avoids confrontation!
Reason #685 - Hermione is a young, well-off, middle class girl with a name chosen by her parents to make them sound better-educated; she's exactly the girl the Dursleys would chose for Harry.
Reason #1471 – The Mr. Cellophane Syndrome
Reason #1492 - It's Quittin' Time at Tara, Massuh Ron!
Reason #1562 - The Logic Used in Debates For H/Hr Defies, Well, Logic
Reason #1899 - The non-canon characterization (i.e., Saint!Hermione, DeathEater!Ron, HeyRememberMe?I'mTheOneTheBooksAreAbout!Harry) drive me up the wall.
Reason #1958 - The mind-boggling twisting of canon it takes to see H/Hr sets my teeth on edge.
Reson #11000942837758137492384957: becuase only matur grown ups ship H/Hr and they suck. I mean that grown ups suck. H/Hr doe's to.

(Anonymous) 2003-10-01 09:33 am (UTC)(link)Thanks for taking the time to go back and compile all of those into one list. Maybe reason number five shouldn't be on there though. I know it's supposed to be funny, but I feel sort of hypocritical with that.
I mean I do think that generally the R/Hr shipper's sense of humor is more in tune with JKR's writing style because most, maybe all, of us get that Ron's comments can be funny and that the twins are used for humor. However, at other places, I'm not sure if this ties in with the Weasley bashing or not, but I've seen criticism of the JKR's sense of humor specifically when it comes to Ron and the twins.
Besides that though, I think it's a wonderful list. I would add like to add a few more if I may that I didn't see on there.
Reason #7 -Because R/Hr shippers don't have to call JKR a liar who sits at home all day practicing in front of her mirror facial gestures to fool interviewers.
Reason #200 -Because R/Hr shippers don't cast anyone with Harry just because we want him out of the way for R/Hr to happen. We actually don't see him as competition at all, so there's no need for us to throw him a bone like Lavendar or now Luna. Several of us actually have different view points on who Harry might end up with, and are more dedicated to that Harry/___ ship than to R/Hr instead of just shoving him aside.
(The following reason is based on argument in the "Why Is it Called the Good Ship?" thread.)
Reason #113 -Because we don't have to make a case on our ship based on what an insane person who killed his father, and tried to kill Harry says. Not to mention the fact that Harry isn't going to become an Auror anyway, so any "foreshadowing" of H/Hr represented by fake!Moody's comments doesn't exist just like Pumpkin Pie doesn't exist in Great Britain.

CONNIE!
Shhh.

I, uh, don't think you're supposed to be on LJ at under 13 either. Not that you appear to be doing anything alarming, but....

I'm so glad you friended me! Your lj is a much needed source of R/Hr goodness :) This is just what I needed to read.
