Indian Summer
One of my favorite movies ever, and yes, another nostalgic ensemble cast movie. Several thirty-somethings are invited up to their old summer camp (Tamakwa, which is an actual camp in Canada) for a last hurrah before it closes for good. They spend the week dealing with their issues and reminiscing about camp days. Lots of flashbacks with 1970s hair and clothes.
There are a lot of different storylines with the different characters, but I have a couple of favorites. Matthew (Vincent Spano) is a sportswear designer who has reached a plateau in his marriage to fellow former camper Kelly (Julie Warner). They don't talk anymore, and it's taking it's toll - especially when Matthew is reunited with former camp sweetheart Jennifer (Elizabeth Perkins). The most moving scene in the movie to me is when Kelly gets Matthew in the boxing ring and is finally able to confont him ("You can't ignore me, anymore!") It would be funny if it weren't so sad.
In a completely unrelated plot, Beth (Diane Lane) has recently lost her husband, Rick, who she met and fell in love with at camp. She goes back because she "wanted to be sad". There's a scene where the middle aged campers run the Tamakwa-thon. It was something that Beth and Rick were very competitive about as children, and it's really heartbreaking to watch her run that race as an adult, running against the ghost of her late husband.
*sigh* I just love this movie. Great scenes (the kitchen raid scene is CLASSIC!). Great dialogue (you will never look at masking tape the same way again). And great 1970s Music of the Mellow.
And can I just say how monumentally bummed I am that there are no screencaps of this movie to be found anywhere?! *pouts*
