Tony nominations were announced this morning, and my new favorite "musical that I have the CD to but have never seen", Monty Python's Spamalot, has received 14 nods - more than any other play or musical this year.

Best Musical
Best Book of a Musical
Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre
Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical - Hank Azaria (Lancelot, French Taunter)
Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical - Tim Curry (King Arthur)
Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical - Michael McGrath (Patsy)
Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical - Christopher Sieber (Galahad)
Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical - Sara Ramirez (Lady of the Lake)
Best Scenic Design of a Musical
Best Costume Design of a Musical
Best Lighting Design of a Musical
Best Direction of a Musical - Mike Nichols
Best Choreography
Best Orchestrations

What? No David Hyde-Pierce? Otherwise, this makes me quite excited. The critics don't seem to think it's that good (it's usually compared to The Producers and seen as inferior), but concede that it's immensely entertaining. I'm not sure whether quality or entertainment value is more likely to garner awards come June 5, but I will definitely be watching, if for no other reason than I want to see one of the musical numbers. :)
Music:: "Run Away" - Spamalot cast
Mood:: 'pleased' pleased
