I saw an article first thing.

I wish he hadn't quit... I think he could have made it, or at least given Obama and Clinton a good run. He was keeping them honest... his presence was keeping them more grounded. Now I'm afraid what will happen.

I do hope he gets picked up for the VP. That would be perfect.

An Obama/Edwards ticket would be my dream come true. I like Edwards so much more than Hillary, who I think it too polarizing and is more likely to bring out the Republicans to vote against her than she is to get the Democrats out voting for her.

Ah, I'm sorry. That sucks. I was really surprised by how disappointed I was when I heard the news this morning; I guess I was a bigger Edwards supporter than I thought. But an Obama/Edwards ticket... oh, that would make me very happy.

I feel the same way. I don't want someone who's all "follow me anywhere I, the great leader, will take you" or "follow me as we all come together in one big group hug" but someone who lays out a road map. Damnit, I wanted John Edwards.

I'm actually surprised he dropped out- i had figured he'd stay in and then try for attorney general by using his few votes to make a trade for it. He and Obama have supposedly been 'having talks.'

Yeah, Obama vs Hillary- not much of a choice in my book.
Both don't have much political experience (Hillary likes to say she's had tons, but watching a football game and taking place in one aren't the same thing. All the stuff she treid to accomplish in the White House as First Lady failed miserably.)

At least Obama is a good person, but he is so naive...

I admire the way he's not making an immediate endorsement so he can twist both their arms to pay attention to the issues he cares about. If you can't be king, why not be kingmaker. He seems very practical about doing whatever he can to achieve the goals that are important to him (and all of us).

Do you think he would accept a VP selection? I was kind of thinking he might say been there, done that. But maybe he'll go for it if offered — that practicality again. *Imagines Obama 2008-2016 and Edwards 2016-2024*

I do think he's going to have some power to bring focus to and shape the issues that matter most to him.

And, honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the demands of his home life ultimately had a role to play in this decision.

An aide said it wasn't because of Elizabeth's health, and I know she was the one who encouraged him to run again in the first place, but I wouldn't be surprised if all of the campaigning was just taking a toll.

It's a grueling process in the best of circumstances but must be that much more difficult for a dedicated father with young children. When you add up all of the various factors, if funding was a problem and odds of success seemed too low, I can see where somebody in his position would decide that all of their time and energy as a family might be best spent in other ways.

And maybe as a public servant he was trying to be pragmatic too. He's a class act with a lot to offer and I really do hope he'll have a role where he can make a meaningful impact on the issues that matter most to him.

I'm so sorry. You were the first person I thought of when I heard that he dropped out, i knew how disppointed you'd be. *hugs*

I wish he hadn't quit this early but I agree with mrs_bombadil and wonder if his wife's health had a lot to do with his decision.

I'm surprised by how saddened I feel by Edwards leaving the race. I wasn't expecting it, and now I'm wondering what prompted it now (unless this is a very slow reaction to his poor results in SC) - wondering if the money flow has slowed down, or if (GOD I HOPE NOT) things aren't going well with Elizabeth.

This makes my choice of who to vote for easier, but I'll miss him.
