Of course you are protective of your OTP, it's your OTP. You're right though--for me, the real romance of the series is R/Hr and I never liked H/G and probably never will, however I will 1) Fight to the death for Harry/Ginny against Harry/Hermione shippers if I have to and 2) For me, it has never been about the romance with Harry, so bottom-line...it doesn't matter much to me who he ended up with. He ended up with Ginny, fine--as long as he's happy that's all that matters to me. Would I have liked him to end up with someone else as long as he was just as happy. Absolutely. It would have made it more interesting to me. At the end of the day, I'm just fine with it but I'll always see it as a missed opportunity. But can you really argue that R/Hr was not the romance of the series? It was the most developed, most anticipated, most fleshed out romance of the books. H/G was second, for sure, but come on....really?

However, I can totally see your point. If a H/G fan first came out and said that Ron should have ended up with Luna or someone, I'd be spitting nails like WTF?!

All of which make it the most prominent, I agree. But as for it being "the" romance ... that's very subjective to me, and it's not something I care to argue (which is one of the big reasons the "rivalry" frustrates me). The most important "ship" to me has always been the Trio. R/Hr and H/G are subplots. Yes, R/Hr was a more developed subplot, but for me that heavier development is balanced out by Harry's importance in the narrative and the fact that we get to witness firsthand his falling in love with Ginny.

Fair enough. While R/Hr is "the" romance for me specifically, "most prominent" is a far better and fairer term. And since you don't care to argue on the subject, then I most certainly won't either.

I agree. R/Hr was my OTP prior to OotP, even though I felt that Ginny would end up with Harry, and the series would end as OBHWF. This is why I used to argue for R/Hr but not H/G since I felt R/Hr had more development. I was waiting for Ginny to be more fleshed out and IMO JKR delivered starting in OotP. Since, then I've found myself rooting more for H/G. My love for H/G started out small but has increased with OotP and HBP, with DH cementing it. My love for R/Hr started out strong and was cemented in CoS when Ron belched slugs for Hermione and has remained the same since. Thus, by DH my love for BOTH R/Hr and H/G has balanced out (if that makes sense). I love them both.

The reason I consider H/G my OTP is because of Harry - he is my absolute favourite character in HP and ergo his romance is my favourite romance. For me, Ron, Hermione and Ginny are on an equal plane and so I love them equally because of Harry. He loves them so much and therefore so do I. If I was to rank them, it's Harry at the top, then Ron, Hermione and Ginny at the same level, then the other HP characters. But above and beyond romance, the TRIO relationship is my favourite relationship in DH and the whole series.

Yes, I was initially disappointed with the scant amount of H/G and Ginny in DH, but since my reread, I no longer feel that way. The Trio relationship was the star of DH and that IMO is as it should be. The R/Hr and H/G romances did and should IMO come "below" the Trio friendship, as subplots rather than the main "ships".

BTW, the Ginny-Cho jealousy scene made me grin and indicated to me that the attraction between H/G was still there, even if the romance itself was banked for the moment. I did not find it jarring nor did it make me dislike Ginny :).

LOL, sorry for being so long-winded. This comment is probably more than you asked for :D!

OBHWF 4EVA!!

I always think of "ships" as romances, but I do agree the Trio is the most important relationship. I'd even go as far as saying if someone thinks any of the romances are more important than the friendship of the trio, they missed the point of the books.
