Excellent, my friends. This speech by Judd Hirsch is one of the best things since sliced bread, and I want to kiss Aaron Sorkin for connecting it over and over again to the movie Network (and its screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky), which is IMO the greatest film writing there has ever been.

This is such an excellent choice for a follow-up to The West Wing - after giving the finger so elegantly and eloquently to lowest-common-denominator politics and patriotism, Sorkin has now turned his attention, his pen, and yes his finger to popular culture, most notably television. I'm very curious to see where this goes in the next few episodes and the arcs it explores throughout the season. There were a few low points where the dialogue was less than shiny, but that was true for the first WW episode too. It takes a few episodes for even the best shows to find their groove.

But it's off to a great start. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by Amanda Peet, who I usually find dull and forgettable. Amazingly, she seems to be the Martin Sheen of this show, and she does it ... rather well, I'd say.

Now ... off to find icons.

I really enjoyed it too. Sure it wasn't perfect, and I'm not sold on the casting for Harriet just yet but am hopeful, but I felt it was consistently watchable with plenty of real high points.

Amanda Peet doesn't always thrill me either and I'm really looking forward to what they can do with that character.
