... for what it is. It is, without a doubt, a B-movie. Perhaps C. It's bad, but it knows it's bad. Revels in it, even.

If you are the kind of person who is intrigued/amused by the title Snakes On a Plane, you will probably enjoy this. This is the kind of movie where the filmmakers know their audience and are not afraid for their audience to be a step or three ahead of them. We know what's going to happen when the horny couple goes to get it on in the bathroom. We know, as the film gets closer to the end, that there's going to be one last showdown with the snakes. And we're waiting the whole movie for Sam Jackson to say "mutha****in' snakes on this mutha****in' plane." And that's fine, because it's fun in spite of being predictable. You can see the Audience Response buttons being pushed and Obligatory Movie Elements being checked off a list somewhere, but it doesn't really matter. All that matters is that it's a good time.

I *do* think it's a rather effective horror movie, though. It seems to follow all of the cardinal rules of horror, even down to the anti-sex message. If you're going to check this out this weekend, I wish you a good audience to see it with - one that gets the "so bad it's good" vibe - because that's pretty key to the enjoyment factor. I guess it could also be entertaining to watch people leave in disgust, though. :P

Glad to hear it sucked as much as everyone is hoping. I'm seeing it tomorrow with a few people and some of them speculated that it might just suck rather than suck grandly and amazingly. But if I'm reading you rightly it accomplishes the latter. Good!

LOL, I love your review.

My daughter and son-in-law are going to see it tomorrow, and I can't wait to hear what she thinks. Me, I'll wait for the DVD.

even down to the anti-sex message

Is that an obligatory theme in horror films? You have sex, you get slashed by your five-year-old evil brother, pinned to a wall with arrows, or swallowed by a snake?

It's those bloody conservatives again!

Hehe. Apparently! It's become kind of a joke, actually. Heck, in the original Nightmare on Elm Street, Johnny Depp didn't even GET any - he just WANTED to - and he still got killed.

I happened across blanksonablank.com the other day... it's a bunch of parody short films involving various animals on various modes of transportation, e.g. Cows on a Popemobile! Low-budget, of course, and of varying quality, but good for wasting some time and bandwidth. :)

Snakes On a Plane is awesome...
... for what it is.

I hope so! I haven't read the comments here because I'm leaving in 45 min. to go see it with my friend who, can you believe this, hadn't heard of this movie until today?? There's spending too much time on the internet for you (or not - in her case). :p

I am hoping that we have a good audience. I think 10:00 p.m. on an opening Friday night has at least good possibilities. I do hope there are at least one or two *made-you-jump* moments and that it's not totally stupid. I'm not going into it with high expectations so I hope to be surprised that it wasn't a total waste of money. :-)

That's an interesting review! So it does live up to the hype, in a way. :D
