Will get to the letter meme in a bit. For now, here's something I yoinked from
prettyannamoon:
1. How long have you been in fandom?
Three years and one month today. That's when I count it, anyway - when I joined my first online fansite (the now defunct *sigh* Gryffindor Tower).
2. How did you discover fandom/what was your route into it?
This one's kind of complicated. I read the first book in fall 2001, saw the first movie, and read the other three books that were in print at the time. I didn't have much access to the internet (just when I could get on at the public library), but I was hearing a few things about CoS filming on Ain't It Cool News. There were occasional links from there to HP news sites (TLC, Mugglenet, etc.) so I started to lurk on those (movie news was what we were getting more of then, and we knew when the next movie would come out, as opposed to the next book). I dipped another toe in the fandom around the CoS movie release when I heard the term "shipper" for the first time (again, oddly enough, on AICN). I found a few sites, but nothing that really caught my fancy (I didn't get the appeal of fanfic). Then one day I was looking for some Harry/Ginny fanart, and I stumbled on Gryffindor Tower. Pleased to see that there were other people who saw H/G in the books, I joined. I lurked in the discussion forums and mostly only posted on the games and movie threads. Someone linked to the Sugar Quill, and I went there, even more intrigued by a site that was in favor of my preferred pairings without being "ship-centric." From SQ I found my way to FAP, from FAP to LJ, and the rest is history.
3. Do you actively participate in any forums you may wish to pimp to me? Any you joined then but would not set foot in now?
I don't actively participate in forums anymore. I had kind of a heydey from 2003-2005 - I posted a little on GT and SQ, and a lot on FAP and CoS, but I don't have/make a lot of time for posting or even lurking much anymore. I don't regret any forums I've joined.
4. How did you discover LJ, and what made you get one?
I noticed several people on FAP had LJs, and I started reading them. I'm pretty sure (*prepares to sound stalkerish and minionish*)
angua9's was the first I started reading. I admired many of these people and envied how friendly they seemed to be with one another - particularly after Nimbus. So I decided to splurge and get a paid account (ironically, soon afterwards, LJ stopped requiring codes for free accounts).
5. How did you come up with your username?
Connie Lane is a character in one of my favorite classic movies, Good News. She's a sweet, brainy, somewhat snarky chick (played by June Allyson - no Depends jokes, plz) who gets the guy, and she's been my avatar for a number of years now.
6. Who is your favourite character, and why?
Harry. It's his story, and I'm endlessly endeared to him. I love that his great superpower is Love.
7. Have your opinions changed towards any characters/ships in your time in fandom?
Not really. I'm less eye-rolly at slash than I used to be, I guess.
8. Do you write/draw within fandom? What made you start?
I write, a little.
wahlee_98 and an "engine" made me start.
9. Does what you write/draw differ from what you would read? How so? What are your biggest kinks/squicks?
I read very little, fandomwise, but I think the kind of things I write are also the kind of things I most enjoy reading. Kinks - well-written smut. Squicks - incest, chan. I don't get the appeal of slash, but it doesn't squick me.
10. Of what piece of your work are you most proud, and why (link, please). Non-writers/artists, please can I have a link to something you love?
Chapter Four of That Thing. I rarely give myself credit for being funny, but that was one of my moments. I can't link to it, I'm afraid. I wish I could. ;)
Had an okay weekend. Finally caught up on House, did a lot of rewatching Veronica Mars in preparation for season finale. Read a little more of To Say Nothing of the Dog (God, I can't stand Tossie and her pwecious Ju-Ju-kins!).
Was running around in manner of headless chicken all morning Sunday getting ready for two meetings, and I'm SO looking forward to a fairly event-less week. Worship was incredible, though. We did a service of anthems, accompanied by an orchestra. It was amazing, if I say so myself.
