In my growing obsession with all things Veronica Mars - particularly my newly established crush on Logan Echolls (played wonderfully by Jason Dohring) - it occurred to me that Logan/Jason reminded me of someone, but I couldn't think who until I read an article about the show.

For you non-Mars-ophiles, that's Logan on the right. And of course Francophilian icon Mickey Rourke on the left.

Okay, he may not be your thing, but I had SUCH a crush on Mickey Rourke for a while, especially in Diner and 9 1/2 Weeks. And he has (or had, rather) an excessively charming-yet-damaged bad-boy vibe, which is probably the key to Logan's appeal. Well, that and the fact that when he wants to be he can be downright sensitive. Almost ... caring. It's eerie how much Dohring looks like Rourke, though. And that Logan is a very similar character in a lot of ways to the characters Rourke often played in the 1980s.

Anyway, it's nice to have that mystery solved. That may not be a new observation at all (in fact, I wonder how many people have come up to him and made that comparison already), but I'm new to all this. :P Have been uploading VM icons like a mad woman - I have 5 already and am looking for more with some of the other characters. *clutches tightly to semblance of a life before it slips away*

I remember him mostly from Rumble Fish, actually. Bad boy type + bike=HAWT. :p

Ooooh, I loved him in Sin City - probably his best performance ever. But ... not a prettyboy there. :P

Oh I see, looks matter afterall :P

teasing, teasing!

I agree about Sin City being his best acting performance. Clive and Bruce were good with their characters but I felt for Marv and rooted for him moreso than I should have, was not happy with his fate *grumbles*

Cheers

Am I sick for thinking that he was INCREDIBLY sexy in Sin City? Because, well, I do. He and Bruce Willis make that movie worth watching over and over and over and.....

Lock me away, please. I clearly need help.

I'm not really familiar with his work, but now I'm tempted to check it out, because of this: excessively charming-yet-damaged bad-boy vibe. Yeah. I like that.

Now, when I first started watching VM, Logan seemed eerily familiar to me, too--and to my mom, who started watching it with me. We realized eventually that he really reminded us of a friend of my brother's from high school, who had that same kind of cute, as well as a mix of emo kid and bad boy personality (but not quite as snarky as Logan).

Ah...obsessions are wonderful when they are new, aren't they? I'm glad you got on board this train. I've been longing for more VM discussion ever since I started watching it.

My top 5 Mickey Rourke flicks
8warning all are rated R, usually for language, violence, sexual content, etc.

1.)Diner
2.)Harley Davidson and the Malboro Man
3.)9 & 1/2 Weeks (Teh Supa Hawt)
4.)The Year of the Dragon
5.)Sin City

... with the exception of Sin City, the rest are old and Mickey looks young, pretty intense and gifted actor, and as I understand it, he has that smile, bet P could explain that better than I could.

So VM is really worht looking into? I don't get UPN with my satelite provider though there's always the DVDs...

Cheers

Oh, yes! I never thought about that. My husband has had me conviced that he reminds him (and me)of Ben Savage.

I like this comparision much better, though. :)

I've often thought he's also got a very Fight Club Ed Norton thing going on as well.

Glad to see you are enjoying VM. TWOP has been good as recapping them. For my money, it's the best show on TV at the moment. 'Course, you know, my money isn't legal tender in most places, so whadda I know?
