connielane: (best friends)

I'm still a little hungover from the midnight show, and can't really form any coherent thoughts yet. But for now...

* Welcome back, canon characters! While there were a few moments that made me wince, most of the time you were spot-on - especially you, my dear Trio.

* I loved the little touch on the train with Ron not having enough money for the candy. Such a great, succint way to sum up the money issue between Ron and Harry.

* Ginny!!! So, so cute. Such good friendship stuff with her and Hermione. Wonderful stuff during and surrounding the Yule Ball. Can't WAIT until she and Harry actually (hopefully) have some interaction in OotP.

* NEVILLE! *loves* Love the scene where he's trying to talk Herbology with Harry and Harry's all "No offense, but I don't really care." And I love the Ball stuff. He's so excited to have had such a good time!

* Dude. The dragon scene was tense as all get out.

* Hee! Hermione looked positively horrified for a moment when she thought Fleur might have said "yes" to Ron.

* Harry-Ron fight ... perfection. I love how Ron seemed to be making up his mind whether to add that "piss off" or not.

* Yule Brawl was very well done by both Rupert and Emma. I'd have liked to have seen a little bit before to better explain why Hermione was upset (i.e., that Ron had a chance to ask her and didn't) and a little bit after to explain how/why they were still on speaking terms after that.

* You know, it's not very canon, but I loved the friendship scenes with Harry and Hermione, particularly the one on the bridge. It's nice to see them have a conversation that's not all about what Harry is going through.

* Almost lost it when Cedric waves bye to his father before going into the maze.

* Graveyard scene was even better than I hoped it would be.

* Voldemort = hawt. Okay, now that that's out of the way, I loved everything Fiennes did in that scene. From the absolute ecstasy he seems to feel at touching his face to stepping on Cedric (EVAL, YO!) to touching Harry's scar to his "monologuing" - he is the consummate villain. He looked and seemed more human than I imagined him to be from the book, but I think it's better this way. Makes him scarier somehow.

It was a good audience, though I was sitting next to an extremely high-strung person who was very overwrought throughout most of the film. It will be interesting to see it again tonight, when there will presumably be more kids.

I don't know if this takes the place of CoS as my favorite of the movies, but I liked it very much indeed and can't wait to see it again in a few hours.

You're seeing it again in a few hours? Wow! lol

The dragon scene WAS tense. I felt that it was a worthy scene to leave in(compared to the Buckbeak scene in PoA) and man was that dragon scary.

Yeah I think they could have explained why Hermione was upset with Ron a bit better. Her yelling "You ruined EVERYTHING!" and taking her shoes off and crying made me feel so bad for her, awwwww!

Glad you liked it!

Yeah, I'm seeing it again tonight with the family. And I'm guessing a different kind of audience than the weirdos that showed up for the midnight show. :P

* Voldemort = hawt.

Yeah, see, that's what I'm afraid of, with Ralph Fiennes playing him, that I'll be sitting in the theater going, "OMG VOLDEMORT is the SEXAY!!!"

*snicker* Sexy Voldemort? How's JKR going to handle the audience when they start asking who he dates?

Voldy/Bella all the way! LOL

Yes! I agree with pretty much everything you say. Very occasional cringe, but overall just fantastic. I'm still processing how I feel about the Yule Brawl, which is way important to me. I agree about how it wasn't clear why they weren't more angry at each other afterwards. In the book, the fact that Hermione actually says out loud that he should ask her next time changes the tone of everything and distracts both of the away from the fight, and their reactions the next day are more about how they deal with that than about how they deal with the argument. By adding this extra "Ron you ruined everything line" after she tells him to ask her next time, it removes the ability of the "ask me next time" words to transform things and explain why they make up.

I was a loud laugher and giggler. I mean, you know me. I try, honest! Okay, not really. But I can't help it!

And we had a quiet crowd for midnight. *sighs*

On top of that we had a rather younger and "hipper" crowd (lots of high school and college kids) there, not die-hards like me. They don't appreciate loud laughter and giggling. It's, like, uncool.

Gits.

Sheesh, what were they doing at a midnight showing, then? *I* laughed, giggled, clapped, shrieked, squeaked, etc. through most of it myself. :P

Yes, that's me too! I mean, even through some of the un-funny parts. I mean, not the Voldemort part, but some of the Harry-Ron fight and other stuff.

Sorry to keep commenting, but I just had to say...I've seen so many, "Wow, I was wrong about Kloves" posts in the last 2 days. :D Thought you'd be happy about that.

Yes, absolutely agree! I went to the movie fearing any overtly H/Hr friendly scenes - and in the end I was so glad and grateful they had those scenes. At times, I forgot Ron and Hermione were even in the movie, so scenes like these were a nice reminder and very much needed, IMO. I even loved the hug before the first task - after all that Harry had gone through at that point, the fight with Ron, the badges, the whole school being against him, he needed a kind word and a hug - badly - and I was glad someone was there to do it. Ditto with the scene on the bridge - I was just glad they were on speaking terms after the little disaster at the Ball. *g* It seemed a bit like the H/Hr friendship we saw in HBP to me, though, but then, they did the same kind of fast forward bit with Neville and Ginny, so - no objections from me. :)

And yes, Ralphmort WAS sexy - reminded me a bit of The Mummy, actually...

I had commented a while back in your LJ about how I thought Kloves did a bad job of the screenplays. Well, I'm commenting again this time to take back my words!!!!
This was the best screen adaptation of the series so far and Kloves has redeemed himself! I don't think anyone could have done it better. Really enjoyed the trio and the Ron/Harry, Harry/Hermione and Ron/Hermione scenes!!
