Maybe I'm just too sensitive...

But this has to be one of the worst exercises in poor taste that I've ever seen. It's called the "Titanic Adventure Slide." Come on, kids! Slide down the ship's deck just like the real people who really died!

I saw this thing at a mall, with kids playing on it, and I felt like I was the ONLY person who was appalled. What are people thinking making a plaything like that?!

Garn! Another remake!

And now there's going to be a remake of My Fair Lady. Supposedly, the script will be written by Emma Thompson, and will use the Lerner and Loewe score and lyrics, but will draw more material from Shaw's play than its 1964 predecessor. It will apparently be shot on location in London, and Keira Knightley is going to star as Eliza (with Daniel Day-Lewis as Henry Higgins).

As much as I love the original movie, I do know that it's not without its controversies (not the least of which was the casting of Eliza). In particular, the stage musical's creators were supposedly not happy with it, partly because it was shot on a soundstage instead of in London. Perhaps this will be a rare remake that will right some of the perceived wrongs of the original.

And I must say that I'm intrigued by the possibilities Emma Thompson might bring to the adaptation. It just makes my eye-roll reflex act up whenever I hear of another sacred cinematic cow being sacrificed to the remake gods. I know there are "no new stories," but dang.
