Moonlighting comes out TODAY on DVD. I usually get these kind of things directly from a local store, but I figured Amazon would be cheaper. Plus, I had the money to buy it at the time I pre-ordered, and now I ... don't.

But I won't get my copy until this weekend or next week! *cries* I want my Greatest Bickering Lovers Ever, dangit!!!

Hercules from Ain't It Cool News did a write-up about the new DVD, and included some favorite lines:

"Do bears bear? Do bees be? Do ducks duck? Do flies fly? Do math majors multiply? Do eggs get laid? Does Spock beam up?"

"Just when I think you've gone as low as you can go, you find a basement door!"

"I remember when they told Sylvia Plath, ‘Hey, Syl, cheer up!’ I remember when they told e.e. cummings, e, baby; use caps!’ But did ol' e listen? No. Little n. Little o."

"Well, let me remind you Mr. Addison, that one case does not a detective make."

"Well, let me remind you Ms. Hayes, that I hate it when you talk backwards!"

One of the greatest TV shows ever made. I hope they release the other seasons eventually. Season Three brought Herb Viola and the Shakespeare episode. *happy sigh*
Mood:: 'anticipatory' anticipatory
Music:: "Some walk by night..."

OH GOSH. Why did you have to tell? :p I cannot buy DVDs now. :: whines ::

Oh yes, the Taming of the Shrew episode was just awesome.

Wah, I guess I gotta save up for the snark and the bickering. Ah well.

I'm thinking of going to Blockbuster and seeing if they have a copy for rent to tide me over. I'm DYING to see the "Next Stop Murder" again - the one where they're on the train with all the mystery buffs.

Moonlighting was a good show but I always thought then, and still do, that Cybil Shephard sucked as an actress. Pure Suckage. It was very smartly written though and I enjoyed it for just that.

btw, wasn't it a takeoff of another similar show, Remmington Steel? RS definately came first and the following season Moonlighting premiered, IIRC.

A quick check of IMDB shows that Remmington Steel, starring Stephanie Zimbalist and Pierce Brosnan, premiered in 1982 and ran through to 1987. Moonlighting premiered in 1985 and ran through to 1989. I still prefer Remmington Steel over Moonlighting.

p.s. ooooh just found a little tidbit of info in the trivia section:
Writer 'Glen Gordon Caron' left this series to create "Moonlighting" (1985), another series about a pair of bickering detectives.

Just as I suspected, a 'take off' of the series.

Well, I was only about 10 at the time, but I thought they were quite different shows. They were both detective shows with a man and a woman, I guess. But it's not rare for two or three or a dozen shows to have similar setups. How many cop shows have there been with a crusty but benign officer and his young hot-shot partner?

I loved both of them, though. An addict to sparring lovers from a very early age. :P I liked Cybil, too. It's kind of a thankless job to play the straight man on a funny show, and I thought she did it well.
