MOVIE STUFF
I feel sad that I never do proper movie reviews nowadays, but it always seems too late once the opening weekend has passed. I did see Brave last week and absolutely loved it. I like that Pixar took a typical Disney formula (the princess story) and used it to express their own values, namely that "someday my prince will come" is not (nor does it need to be) every girl's dream. I am dismayed but not really surprised by the "Merida must be a lesbian" crap that's coming out. Really, people. What *does* surprise me is those Father's Day ads they ran on television, when the movie very obviously should have been released and promoted for Mother's Day. Unsurprisingly, I had a lot of feels about the mother-daughter storyline. I know some people weren't really wowed by the story, and I agree that it's fairly basic (by Pixar's previous standards), but it was still good. And no matter what you feel about the story, I think the visuals and the music are some of the best stuff to come out of the studio. Maybe not quite beating Finding Nemo in both/either of those areas, but still great. And yes, I still want to move to Scotland.

I also enjoyed the short, La Luna, very much. Michael Giacchino's score is especially spectacular and I suspect made the short seem better than it actually was. Ah well, music is a magic beyond all we do here, you know. :P

Note: If you haven't seen it yet, DON'T SEE IT IN 3D! I didn't myself, but I know that a good chunk of the movie's scenes happen at night and in dark castles, and with 3D images being typically at 25% of the brightness of normal movies, I can't see how half the movie is even visible that way.

Still haven't seen Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and very much want to. I love the meme that has been going around, smashing together historical figures and supernatural evil slayers (JAMES K. POLK: FRANKENSTEIN WRESTLER).
