So, apparently there's a bit of whinging about this line from Ron, as seen in the new Deathly Hallows footage.
Yeah, way harsh, Ty. And that's exactly the point. You can clearly see that he's wearing the locket here - you know, the locket that puts you in a dickish mood and leads you to do jackass things you wouldn't normally do because it carries a piece of the soul of a Seriously Evil Wizard.
You may also recall that an exchange very similar to this happens in the book. Harry is the one to say "my parents are dead," but canon!Ron very strongly implies EXACTLY what movie!Ron does - that it must be easier for Harry not to have any family to worry about. That is IN THE BOOK, people. And then - I don't know HOW people don't see that this is the worst of what Ron does (again, still strongly influenced by the horcrux around his neck, and again, IN THE BOOK) - HE EFFING LEAVES.
Ron is awesome, but he is a character with flaws - just like most of the characters in the books that are drawn in any detail. Most of us have seen Ron's flaws blown way out of proportion by ... certain sectors of the fandom ... and turned into reasons Ron is a Bad Person. But I for one have done my best not to fall for that. Ron's insecurities and foibles make him more real. They make me see similar pieces of my own character (oh, how accutely I understood his tantrum just before he left in ch. 15), and recognize that, while these are not admirable traits, I am not a horrible person who is beyond all hope for having them.
Kudos to Kloves for not cutting Ron slack on this, and major props to Rupert for acting the HELL out of it.
