Sclumphxterned (have to use that every now and then as a nod to [livejournal.com profile] acemyth) from [livejournal.com profile] shocolate and [livejournal.com profile] emmacmf.

Look at your LJ userpics list. If you have fewer than 50 icons, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five icons, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five icons, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly why you have it, why it's interesting to you, what significance it has.

I guess I should warn that there are some spoilers for Veronica Mars and Dollhouse, if you haven't seen those shows. And HP, but I think we're all pretty clear on that. :P

OBHWF
Man, I love this one. It's like six years old and still one of my favorites. The picture was taken by [livejournal.com profile] prettyannamoon, who I think used a whole roll of film taking similar pics of her HP dolls, and was used for a result image in a parody shipping quiz she made (Remember the days of Quizilla? *fanstalgia*). Nothing beats the Remus/Sirius result pic, of course, but I love this one and still use the icon every once in a while for shipping posts and comments.

mary
This is Mary Wollstonecraft, the vastly undervalued (historically, at least) pioneer of modern feminism. In the century after her death (that is to say, the 19th century), when her writings ought to have been shaping the philosophy of future generations, they were overshadowed by her shocking (at the time) life story, which included two pre-marital affairs, resulting in two children (one of whom went on to write Frankenstein). I use this icon for writerly posts and the rare occasions when I talk about something feministical.

sheep
Back in the days of Ye Olde Shyppynge Debaites, the H/Hers used to compare us to mindless sheep, who had no opinions except to blindly follow whatever JKR or our fellow shippers said. Like many of their intended insults, we wore the badge with pride, and there was a time when a YM convo would not have been complete without someone saying "baaaa" as another form of "Jinx!" This particular sheep is the one from the Pixar short Boundin' (which appeared before The Incredibles). I use this for memes and for head-noddy "Word!" comments.

herbology can wait
On one such evening, when Ginny had retired to the library, and Harry was sitting beside the window in the common room, supposedly finishing his Herbology homework but in reality reliving a particularly happy hour he had spent down by the lake with Ginny at lunchtime... (HBP, ch. 25)
The lovely art is by Marta (formerly seviet on LJ), who I am very sad has left LJ behind. It's my PG-13 H/G icon (for R-rated icon, see the cricket one). I use it for H/G-related things.

tracy & dext
I made this one, and I'm rather proud of it. The images are of Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant in The Philadelphia Story - greatest romantic comedy evah. The scene pictured contains an exchange very like the one I've given them on the icon. Hepburn says "Really?" and Grant answers "Really." I giggle just thinking about it.

logan/veronica b&w
From one of my favorite shows ever on TV - "the Harry Potter of shows," as Joss Whedon once called it - Veronica Mars. I collected a bunch of icons in the first flush of my affection for the show, and I still have/use most of them. The couple is Logan and Veronica (LoVe, as the icon says) - tempestous, brutally hot, and (as Logan would say) "epic." This is one of my favorite of their makeout scenes (probably a close second to the bathroom smoochies in "M.A.D.") and it comes from "A Trip to the Dentist." I use it for various romantic posts, as there's not much traffic in VMars posting these days.

stupid
One of a series of LOTR icons with MST3K quotes. I don't know what episode the MST quote is from, but the LOTR moment is when Pippin knocks all that crap into the well in Moria and cringes as the noise keeps going and going and going. I use this for when I've made a mistake or done something stupid or (way more fun) when I'm pointing out someone else's stupidity (usually behind their back). *is bitch*

dazzler
Text from Brad Neely's brilliant Sorcerer's Stone parody commentary track, "Wizard People, Dear Reader." There's something screamingly funny about calling Filch "Dazzler." I use it kind of randomly, though probably more for general HP posts than anything else. I also used it for Twilight mocking before I acquired the sparkly baseball one.

harry-ginny ootp
A rare (for me) H/G icon from the movie actors. I'm very picky about such things, and I have a strong dislike for pre-HBP images manipulated to make pre-HBP Dan and Bonnie look like they're doing something pre-HBP Harry and Ginny would not be doing. I use it for, you guessed it, Harry/Ginny posts.

kloves love
Hee! That is, of course, Steve Kloves, screenwriter for all but one of the HP films. Being Head Cheerleader for the Great Fandom Whipping Boy is hard work, but someone has to do it. The man gets so much right, it KILLS me to see people rag on him as if none of that matters when he gets a few things amiss (and yes, I'm well aware that some of them are not small things). If you slag on Steve Kloves, you are in very real danger of a visit from the Pink Kloves Icon of DOOM and some tl;dr from me. Don't say I never warned you!!!

WALL-E
Awww, I almost never use this one. It's obviously from WALL-E, and I tend to reserve it for "dream"ish posts.

dollhouse - november
This is my favorite thing about Joss Whedon's new show, Dollhouse. Miracle Laurie, who plays Mellie/November/Madeline. She's a wonderful actress and proof that you don't have to be a size 0 to be beautiful and have wicked awesome sex with the hot FBI agent next door. I use this for Dollhouse posts, as well as general posts/comments.
