The Casual Vacancy

Not to be maudlin, but there was a time when this news would have been all up on my flist as soon as word of it was breathed. I'm sure most of you have seen this, but I have to put it here for posterity.

I hope none of you consider titles a spoiler. If you don't feel like following the link, here's the blurb, under the cut, for posterity.

I can has nu Rowling book nao, plz?

It's been a pretty long time since we heard anything from The Lady about how her post-Potter writing was coming along, but LOOKEE HERE! (Don't get too excited; it's not news about an actual book - yet; it just sounds like there's at least *something* that's tantalizingly close to seeing the light of day.)

WANT.

Made-for-TV biopic of Jo? No, thanks.

Really?

I'm cringing at the thought of pretty much every aspect of this, particularly how they might portray her first marriage. I mean, it was only a matter of time before something like this happened, but I still don't like it.

Jo Updates!

There you go, [livejournal.com profile] major_dallas! She must have heard you! Updates in the News section (with a hilarious anecdote about almost being forced to part with her manuscript for Book 7 because of the heightened airport security), Diary, and Extras (with a VERY tantalizing "Never Asked Question", which she assures us is NOT of the "Mark Evans" ilk).

The Extras update is probably the most interesting. I think she's laying off of "easter egg" reveals about the next book this go round - everything is a giveaway at this point. I'm kind of glad she's laying off of giving the title until she's closer to finishing. Order of the Phoenix, for example, was no doubt a very fitting title at a certain point in her writing of that book, but we saw with the OotP "Plan" that that was likely a case of deciding on a title before the book had really begun to take shape.

JKR updates!!

She's updated the Rumor & FAQ section with some new bits, including this one. Oh, dang, I guess I'd better use a cut and a banner. There's nothing really specific about HBP, but she does mention it - how she feels about it and how she thinks people may respond to it - and she does put a highly regarded (by some) theory to rest.
