For anyone who cares, here's my semi-stream-of-consciousness ramblings as I watched the Golden Globes tonight.
6:38 - Watching the pre-show. I have abandoned NBC's version. I hate the celebrity ass-kissing, and I feel embarrassed for the schmoozers and for the celebrities. Kathy Griffin, however, is pretty funny.
6:42 - ORLANDO! *drool* He's presenting The Aviator. *fangirls*
I am TOTALLY off-kilter with the awards this year. I usually know all the nominees from getting up early and obsessively watching the announcement. But I'm out of the loop tonight.
6:50 - Oh my. Annette Bening should not look that amazing at her age. Gah! Star Jones is just painful. Switching to Joan and Melissa.
6:53 - Awwww! Zach Braff is there with his mom. He's also starting a new movie in the spring called Last Kiss. *makes mental note*
7:00 - Oh, dear God. They've made a cheesy musical number out of a Ray Charles song. *barfs*
7:03 - Clive Owen wins Best Supporting Actor! That was a surprise. Would have preferred David Carridine to win, but Owen was VERY good in Closer.
7:06 - Okay, I don't get what everyone sees in Natalie Portman. As an actress, I mean. She was okay in Closer, but I would certainly not have picked her ahead of the other nominees.
7:14 - Yay! Angelica Huston!
7:16 - William Shatner!!!!111 The man who gave the greatest one-word utterance EVER in a film (KHAN!!!) is now a Golden Globe winner.
7:23 - Jim Carrey (*loves*). Still incredibly funny.
7:25 - CLINTON! We miss you, man! You have NO idea! Hehe, Schwarzenegger and Eastwood try to smile.
7:26 - Gah! I hate that SVU show. Ummm... they're called band-aids, and you should consider wearing them in strategic locations if you're not going to wear underwear with a dress like that. Sweet acceptance speech, though.
7:30 - Ian McShane! I remember when he played Judas Iscariot in Zeferelli's Jesus of Nazereth. And he's won for yet another HBO show that I'll never see. *heavy sigh*
7:38 - Meryl Streep. "Congratulations, Natalie." Such a broad!
7:40 - Curse HBO and their excellent and expensive programming! But yay for the Peter Sellers people knowing how to make short speeches.
7:52 - Yay, Annette Bening! *curses self for not making time to see Being Julia when it was in town* Um... are you going to thank Warre--there you go.
7:59 - Quit hugging each other and get up to the stage, already! Oh, and yay nip/tuck!
8:12 - Geoffrey Rush! *fangirls* "difficult vowel movements" - adskfjaldks'jf'adlskfjsd'lfkjdsf
8:17 - Ugh. Glenn Close. I don't dislike her in general, but no one can do Eleanor of Aquitaine as well as Hepburn.
8:28 - I want to see The Sea Inside. I'm surprised I had seen a couple of those foreign film nominees.
8:35 - Okay, yeah. Sideways was well written, but Eternal Sunshine was pure genius. Disappointing screenplay results.
8:38 - Yayyyyy, Teri Hatcher!
8:46 - Could Lisa Marie Presley look a little more bored? YAY! Another award for Howard "Lord of the Rings" Shore! (Err, this time for The Aviator.) And YAY for Mick Jagger! (*dies* at the "push-up bra" comment)
8:58 - *weeps* Prince introduces the Ray clip. LOTS of applause for him, but he didn't bother to wait for it to stop. *loves*
9:00 - Okay, I cannot believe that Million Dollar Baby is THAT great. But I'm still dying to see it.
9:03 - STOP YELLING, DIANE KEATON!
*cries* They're all standing for Jamie Foxx! Wow. That was a no-brainer, but SO great. Most entertaining speech of the night, despite being quite long. Gah! He was trying so hard not to cry there at the end.
9:14 - I didn't know you could say "balls" on TV... I miss Mork and Mindy... DEAD POETS' SOCIETY! "be gone, J. Evans Pritchard"... The Fisher King is one of the greatest movies OF ALL TIME!... these clips are going quite fast... Mike Nichols!!!!... gosh, that's got to be embarassing watching your career flash before your eyes... dude, NO ONE is funnier than Robin Williams... "if it's not one thing, it's your mother" (whoa! Scorsese cracking up at that one)... very sweet tribute to Christopher Reeve.
9:35 - Total fangirl moment coming up... YAY DICAPRIO!!!!!!11 *grins at Kate Winslet standing for him*
9:41 - *cackles maniacally remembering how the critics said Desperate Housewives was no good at the beginning of the season* Take that!... "My agent was arrested for embezzlement" (asdkjfdlskafj'sdlkfjsd'lkfsjdf)
9:47 - Don't forget to thank your husband, Hilary!... THERE you go! :P
9:55 - Ah, Sideways.
9:59 - WOOHOO! The Aviator!!!1!11 GREAT movie, and great choice! A little sad that movies like Finding Neverland are probably past their peak for awards, but happy for the Aviator folx nonetheless.
Ah well it's over, and it was fun. Foxx's win was probably the best moment of the night. Am disappointed, though, that my TV buddy wasn't around. :(
