connielane at 10:54am on 31/12/2004Mugglenet's recent 2004 fandom summary inspired me to take a look back at the events that shaped my online (and occasionally personal) life in 2004.
January 7, 2004: I decide to take the power of "87" out of the hands of the "inner circle" and make up my own significance, with the help of a poll.
January 9, 2004: I become exposed to the artistic wonder that is H/Hr fanfiction.
January 19, 2004: I finish my first venture into Harry Potter fanfiction. Pillows will never be seen the same way again.
January 23, 2004: Template imposed on FAP's H/Hr vs. R/Hr Debate Thread. This leads to death of most ferocious ship debate and subsequent privatization of ship wars.
January 27, 2004: My all-time favorite silver screen honey becomes "Academy Award Nominee, Johnny Depp"
February 6, 2004: N. Ormous Wandwielder gets his own LJ community.
February 6-7, 2004: The most non-biased and brilliant fanfic ever written is given a limited release.
February 25, 2004: Passion of the Christ opens nationwide, and I proceed to be appalled by behavior of church-going audience.
February 29, 2004: ROTK wins Best Picture and every other thing it's nominated for, causing geeks the world over to put down their crowbars and pick up the champagne.
March 4, 2004: World Book Day chat with JKR yields best shippy quote ever ("you've got enough clues by now, surely?!").
March 24, 2004: First PoA trailer is released. Wrist-grab sends R/Hr shippers over the moon.
March 26, 2004: I take a stand on LJ as a "Fanilow".
April 1, 2004: Much brilliant analysis of R/Hr and H/G by![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
angua9 and connielane, respectively. H/Hers respond appropriately.
April 16, 2004: Kill Bill, vol. 2 is released. My world becomes officially rocked.
May 1-2, 2004: Annual Nashville River Stages leads to sunburn, sore throat, ringing ears, and much ROXing by Foo Fighters and Styx.
May 9, 2004: ABC airs first HP movie. There is much rejoicing in R/Hr-land about "hand movements". And I gain a TV-watching buddy inredwood7.
May 15, 2004: JKR revamps website to make it more fan accessible. Much coolness.
May 18, 2004: HP fans suffering from controlled substance abuse form support group with the help ofwahlee_98.

wahleecon!!! Pirates, PoA, Ravencake, fic reading, amusement park rides, a cookout, and ROTK with lots of kleenex. Oh, and addictive chocolate bars. :P
June 9, 2004: The Darkness plays Nashville's Municipal Auditorium, causing me to ever more strongly "believe in a thing called love."
June 28, 2004: Title of 6th Harry Potter book announed, leading to the first of several group chats on the VDC.
July 8, 2004:angua9 posts shocking declaration that "Yes, Ginevra, R/Hr is canon." Unfortunately, genius (and occasionally the obvious) is often ridiculed, so she gets Fandom Wanked for her trouble. Aside from wahleecon this is the most fun we had this year.
July 12, 2004: Lack of sufficient preparation for Vacation Bible School leads to meltdown at work.
July 28, 2004:wahlee_98 publishes Ron-love Manifesto. More Fandom Wankage ensues. This time, it's far less fun.
July 29, 2004: Two words - Go. Balloons.
July 30, 2004: My first time to be Fandom Wanked. *smokes cigarette*
August 5, 2004: Ralph Fiennes is Voldemort?
August 15, 2004: Edinburgh Book Festival appearance by JKR ("read between the lines" - asdjfkladsjfalksdjf).
August 16, 2004: Character description from HBP appears behind door on JKR's site.
August 20, 2004: My one futile attempt to get into the Olympic spirit ends in apathy.
August 22, 2004: My last twenty-something birthday.
September 8, 2004: Moved to new house.
September 15: Finally finish St. George essay.
October 9, 2004: The President discovers he owns a lumber business.
October 31, 2004: I get picked a third time to go to BNAT. Also, JKR reveals three HBP chapter titles via website.
November 2, 2004: Participated in trans-global chat while watching election results.
November 3, 2004: No, I'm afraid it wasn't a dream.
November 23, 2004: PoA released on DVD. I watch my copy with online TV buddy,redwood7. The Bonnie scene is viewed repeatedly.
December 10, 2004: Drive to Austin and meetthemorningstarr for the first time.
December 11-12, 2004: Possibly the best BNAT I have attended thus far.
December 14, 2004: Drive to Houston and watch ROTK:EE withangua9
December 20, 2004: Entire fandom in uproar over impending release date info and first official GoF movie pics. But mostly the former. :Pwahlee_98 and I have fun figuring out the riddles together and she gets distinction of being the first to notify TLC.
Decmeber 21, 2004: Release date announced. Is not exciting for me as it should have been due to potential work conflicts with date and spending all energy getting excited the day before.
