You're gonna be bothered by how cool I am.

It's been a pretty long time since we heard anything from The Lady about how her post-Potter writing was coming along, but LOOKEE HERE! (Don't get too excited; it's not news about an actual book - yet; it just sounds like there's at least *something* that's tantalizingly close to seeing the light of day.)

WANT.

It's difficult for me to believe, but until today I had no idea of this movie's exact release date. I knew it was in February 1991, but I'd never realized it came out on Valentine's Day! Seriously, who sits in some studio office and thinks, "You know what we should put in theaters on Valentine's Day? That movie with the cannibal and the guy who skins women!"?

On this day, 20 years ago, I was a sophomore in high school, busy at this point with winterguard rehearsals and gearing up for our first competition. I wouldn't see this film for another 10 months, but it would soon become a part of the fabric of our culture, with people everywhere talking about "Hannibal the Cannibal."

Here's one of my favorite little moments, one of several subtly unsettling situations the movie very casually confronts you with.
