Ah, the joys of pouring tea for Thursday Business Lunch. I find it amusing that I have a degree in English, yet part of my job requires me to pour fruit tea every Thursday for people working downtown. Of course, the rest of my job has surprisingly little to do with my area of expertise as well, but it's a heck of a lot more in the ballpark than pouring tea.
Daily Dose of Debate Discontent:
Another H/Her has filched a "Can't Stand H/Hr" post and put it somewhere it doesn't belong. And this time the quote belonged to me. All I did was use the word "boycott" and now everyone seems to be up in arms. Oh, and we're all sheep for wanting solidarity. At least we all agree on whether or not Hermione has ever had feelings for Ron, which is more than I can say for them. Humph. I really don't think anyone needs to try and engage me in a round of "prison rules" debating. I can be quite ugly when provoked. [/rant]
I just saw that the Alamo Drafthouse is showing "Night Warning"

on Halloween night, and I wish I could go. But I live like 900 miles away, and it isn't really worth the commute, especially when I have my own copy at home. :D But the best way to see it is with a room full of people who are screaming and laughing in all the right places. The guy who reviewed it on the Drafthouse website said it was the best horror movie ever, better than the original "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Friday the 13th" combined. I don't know if I'd go THAT far, but it's definitely great - really bizarre, but great. If you enjoy horror flicks, I definitely recommend seeking it out in the 2.99 bin in your local video store. If it's not there, someone probably has a copy on eBay (that's where I got mine).
Another note on the Harry Potter front:
I am currently working on looking into the legend of St. George and the similarities it has with HP (particularly the climax of CoS). I checked out a children's book on it to get the general story, and I'm digging into Spenser's "Faerie Queene," which has already yielded the delightful detail that the heroine has red hair(!!!). It has also been brought to my attention (by the super-cool
acemyth) that the St. George story bears a markable resemblance, and was possibly based on, the myth of Perseus. *sigh* Now I have something to do between now and the release of book 6 that doesn't include tearing my hair out trying to reason with H/Hers on the DT.
