connielane: (Downton Abbey - Lady Mary)

I call this one Missing In Action.

- 1918. They don't always give the time setting and I kind of wish they would.

- I know they had to establish Cora having taken control ahead of Isobel, but I wonder how long all that had been going on. The way the show jumps through time, it seems a bit like it's all happening at once and taking Isobel by surprise just now.

- Patton Oswalt called Ethel's officer "Tony Stark's grandfather." My new head canon.

- Violet doesn't like Carlisle. That settles it. He's a baddie for sure. Speaking of Violet, how shrewd is she to suspect that Sybil might have a fellow on the other side of the class divide?!

- Again, how long has it been since Isobel was at Downton that she doesn't know about the changed schedule? I am so not on her side here, and it seems like she was looking for a reason to go to France anyway.

- LOL Sybil is awfully defensive of Branson to Mary. Funny how she immediatly brings up her marriage prospects.

- I missed this the first watch: "You've been taking those logic pills again. This is the Army, Mason. We're going on a patrol because we're going on a patrol." LOGIC PILLS. Is Matthew secretly in some fandom we don't know about?

- Heh. Matthew kind of covers for Mary when William asks why she didn't wait until she saw him to tell him about her engagement. He says she probably doesn't know he's due back, but she said in the letter that she expects to see him soon.

- "Fresh Yorkshire air, followed by London and Miss Swire." "Alright for some, I say." LOL William you troll.

- Oh gosh, but I love the little story of Molesley and Mrs. Bird feeding the soldiers at Crawley House. And that it gives Cora a chance to be awesome (after ticking me off with yet another dig at Bates at dinner).

- Daisy seems quite anxious to clarify that her concern for William is OMG NOT LIKE THAT.

- Ah, Thomas. Still an asshole. Good to know.

- BUSTED BY MRS. HUGHES, ETHEL! I know Hughes has to be discreet about her being dismissed, but it's frustrating to see Anna taking Ethel's side.

- Oh dear, how long is Robert going to be in the dark about Pamuk? I love the little conversation scene with he and Bates. GUY LOVE.

- "He is frightfully full of himself." Watch it, Sybil. Those were almost the exact same words Mary used to describe Matthew when she first met him. :D

- That shot of Bates appearing on the stairs deserves an Ennio Morricone score. THE BATES IS BACK. And oh, poor Molesley. Bates always seems to stomp on his hopes. :P

- "Is there a right side?" Oh snap, Bates.

- "She wouldn't give us away." Okay, Sybil/Branson. I ship you.

- Hehehe, Cora IMMEDIATELY takes charge once she gets in on the kitchen scheme.

- Oooh, Thomas. Schooled by Clarkson. And of course O'Brien would blame it on Bates.

- I was worried Violet was losing her snark, but she was in fine form at the concert. L...M...A...O at her reaction to everyone singing.

- I was already in tears with the shots of the soldiers listening to Mary's and Edith's song. And I chuckled a bit as the camera cut to some "couples" standing at the back - Sybil and Branson, Carson and Hughes... :P Just kidding, I still don't ship Carson/Hughes. And I don't care if it's cheesy, Matthew and Mary's duet is awesome.

- Michelle Dockery is always lovely, but she is much more so on the rare occasions she's allowed to smile.

- So, I hear the last bit of Mary and Matthew's conversation after the concert was not in the UK version. I liked it very much. Especially the wrist grab. ;-)

- Oh, Anna, HOW can you talk about getting used to being happy?! Have you NEVER read a novel?!

- I have to say I was a tad disappointed they went with the old pregnancy storyline. I did enjoy seeing Amy Nuttall getting to play another emotion besides sulkiness, and perhaps if we see more of her in the future she'll prove a more interesting character.
