War Is On the Way
A few bright spots, but mostly TRAGEDY.

- Poor William! "You've only got one mother." *hugs him* *wipes a tear*

- LOL way to make it clear that one daughter is the show pony and the other is the pack mule, Cora.

- "Cora can't keep a secret for more than a month." "You'd be surprised." And here again, we have the red flags that Matthew might have picked up on. Again, not blaming him and not saying Mary was right BY ANY MEANS, but... He proposed to Mary in May and she's said she'll give him an answer in July, TWO MONTHS later, AFTER she's gone to London for "the season" the purpose of which is to show girls off as "marriage material" and make matches.

- "There they go, Guy Fawkes and his assistant." SNAP, William.

- So not only do Robert and Cora sleep in the same room, defying the conventions of "smart people" everywhere, they still apparently have Teh Sex now and again, leading to Cora's near-"biblical" pregnancy. Love the doctor trying to explain biological things and Robert being all "please, no TMI."

- Mr. Napier, you darling thing! You're too good for Mary. :P

- "Take care of yourself." "Don't worry. O'Brien has me wrapped in silk and feathers." OH.

- Matthew certainly seems ready to pack it in and return to Manchester at news of the pregnancy, not even thinking of any wife he might or might not have. I do feel for Matthew here, especially given what's coming. A good word from Mary would have made him strong enough for anything. I LOVE THEM OMG! Okay, sorry. :P

- Oh, Rosamund. Bad advice. Very bad indeed. Typical Edith to stoke things along.

- "Why Granny, you're a romantic." "I've been called many things, but never that."

- Dear, but I love that Robert sends Mrs. Patmore to London to have her eyes cared for. He's the sweetest, isn't he? I love how much he cares about everyone in the house.

- *sigh* No, Matthew, she wasn't sure before. Remember? You knew you were waiting at least TWO MONTHS for an answer. I'm not saying he should suck it up and deal with it, but he's forgetting some things here. But LMAO that Mary wants points for not trying the bait-and-switch Violet suggested. Girl, just no.

- In this corner ... Mrs. Patmore, the Generalissimo! In this corner ... Mrs. Bird! LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!

- Whoops, be careful what O'Brien overhears, Cora! She has a way of running with things!

- "I'm not saying poison them! Just make sure they don't find her food all that agreeable." "By poisoning 'em?"

- I love how, because of the time period, we get to see so much technology that was coming into use at the time, notably the telephone. And the fact that cars were still not that commonplace.

- Daisy's attempt at sabotage is hilarious and sweet. Thank goodness she hadn't had time to ruin the beef stew! :P I got a warm surge of emotion for Robert again when Carson reminded Daisy that it's unlikely they'd replace Mrs. Patmore when they'd gone to so much trouble to get her well. *hugs Downton*

- Sometimes the three Crawley girls remind me of the daughters in Fiddler on the Roof. Sybil in particular reminds me of the youngest daughter, Chava, and I fear for what that might mean in the future regarding Branson (who yes, I can see taking the Fyedka role).

- I'm glad Bates is innocent and all, but I find myself less interested in his trials. WOOB-FEST.

- Cute sunglasses, Patmore! Love that she and Mrs. Bird sort of join forces against Mrs. Hughes. Long live the cook/housekeeper conflict!

- OMG CARSON PRACTICING ON THE PHONE. PERFECTION.

- Oh, dear God, I cannot handle what happens to Cora. CANNOT. I have a physical response every time I watch this sequence. It doesn't even happen on screen, but ... And while it's HORRIBLE and a horrible thing for her to have done, I still feel bad for O'Brien. She regretted it instantly, but as soon as she turned back to try and make it right it was too late.

- LOL Bates, carving out his territory. STEP OFF MOLESLEY! :P

- And another heartbreaking scene for Mary. And Carson! CARSON! Can I get a hug from Carson?

- Hehehe, Violet and Isobel - founding members of the HMS Matthew/Mary! Opposing shippers beware!

- "I very much regret to announce that we are at war with Germany." I've seen a few promos for Season 2 and it seems like WW1 will be consuming the story line. How could it not, after all? Fellowes has said many times that pre-WW1 was kind of the last golden era for this kind of household, and I'm anxious to see how things change once the war begins.

NEW EPISODES TOMORROW NIGHT OMG!!!
