connielane: (DW trio)

I quite liked Saturday's Who, and even watched a couple of themey movies afterwards. Nightmare on Elm Street was a rewatch and wonderful as always, but Dolls was new (to me) and RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME. Killer dolls with tiny knives and saws brutally murdering jerky adults - WINTASTIC!

Anyway, while "Night Terrors" was a cool stand-alone episode, the order change-up puts a weird spin on a couple of things and I noticed something else interesting in "The Impossible Astronaut."

Okay, so "Night Terrors" was originally supposed to air third, in the "Curse of the Black Spot", errr, spot. And vice versa, as I understand. It's pretty clear from the way the final scenes of both are cut that what the Doctor is looking at on screen could have been (and very likely was) very easily swapped, meaning that if they had aired in the original order, he would have been looking at Amy's pregnancy results at the end of "Night Terrors" and the Teselecta details about his death at the end of "Curse...". It also makes the Doctor's comment about "in the flesh" very foreshadowy. I do think, though, that the order swap adds an unnecessary weirdness to Amy's and Rory's response (or lack thereof) to having their daughter kidnapped - especially as this is such a big parental-love episode. I mean, I do actually think it's believable for them to be rather nonchalant about what happened, but maybe not when confronted with the situation in this episode. I mean, they'd have thought *something* about their own child, surely. Anyway, casualty of the order change, but still strange.

So then I started thinking about the information the Teselecta had about the Doctor's death, and here's what bugged me. How do they know? Obviously it wouldn't be that amazing to discover roughly when and how he died, but they know EXACTLY. Like, down to the specific time of death, to the minute. How do they know when there was no one there (to our knowledge) except Amy, Rory, River, Canton, and Creepy Silence Guy?

OR WAS THERE? (Sorry for the Quibbler-esque stinger, couldn't resist.)

Check out this cap and the close-up.

There is someone standing behind that shack. If you watch that part of the episode, I swear you can see an arm move.

Now, obviously, anyone with half a brain knows there's more to the Doctor's apparent death than meets the eye and that, even more obviously, in all likelihood they're going to continue making Doctor Who after Matt Smith leaves. Duh. I just thought it was an interesting detail and can't wait to see how it all comes together. Four more weeks, and then nothing until Christmas!
